A New Study Says Online Political/Anti-vaxx Trolls Are Incredibly Dumb Assholes In Real Life Too. It’s Science.

I gotta think there’s going to be a time when online assholes decide not to live in ignorance.  Thanks to this new study from the American Political Review, at least we can label the majority of those who engage in online hatred from a position of sheer stupidity as ‘Dumb Assholes’ thanks to science.

Gizmodo: In a study published in the American Political Science Review, the researchers used representative surveys and behavioral studies from the U.S. and Denmark to establish the reason why people broadly perceive the online environment as more hostile than offline interaction. A pre-print version of the article is available here.

The team considered the mismatch hypothesis, which in the context of online behavior refers to the theory that there is a conflict between human adaptation for face-to-face interpersonal interaction and the newer, impersonal online environment. That hypothesis more or less amounts to the idea that humans who would be nicer to each other in person might feel more inclined to get nasty when interacting with other pseudonymous internet users. The researchers found little evidence for that.

Instead, their data pointed to online interactions largely mirroring offline behavior, with people predisposed to aggressive, status-seeking behavior just as unpleasant in person as behind a veil of online anonymity, and choosing to be jerks as part of a deliberate strategy rather than as a consequence of the format involved. They also found some evidence that less hostile people simply aren’t as interested in talking about politics on the internet.

“We found that people are not more hostile online than offline; that hostile individuals do not preferentially select into online (vs. offline) political discussions; and that people do not over-perceive hostility in online messages,” the researchers wrote. “We did find some evidence for another selection effect: Non-hostile individuals select out from all, hostile as well as non-hostile, online political discussions.”

Translation?

The worst of the worst ONLINE is literally the worst because they’re super angry and extra stupid in real life.

This guy would be who the study is referring to.

Angry/Dumb is dangerous too.  That’s kind of what I got out of the study.  Angry/dumb folks act out of desperation because they not only don’t understand what they’re angry about, they don’t have the skills to process their emotions.

The study eludes to “cognitive ability” which is a nicer way to say ‘Not very smart’.

It also talks about pre-existing ‘mental’ co-morbity being another factor which is a nicer way of saying ‘pre-existing undiagnosed or untreated mental issues.

The crazy airport dude’s pre-existing condition probably comes from having a teenie weenie or  PTSD over not understanding why he should have been vaccinated BEFORE trying to get on a flight without a mask in the middle of a global pandemic.

These dinks?  Same thing.

The worst of the worst ONLINE is the worst OFFLINE and as we’ve said a million times, it’s because they are either A) Just total assholes or B) Willingly ignorant assholes who want everyone else to be as confused as miserable as they are so they don’t feel so alone.

That’s all this is btw.  A club for disturbed people who are happy to hang out with anyone who doesn’t think they need a straight jacket.

Wait till Fordsie announces vaccine certificates on WEDNESDAY.  We’re in for a show.  A dumb show full of people who do dumb shit all the time so don’t feel too bad for them.

I sure as fuck don’t.  Neither should you.  It’s science.
