A York Catholic District School Board rep just told me they aren’t interested in talking about how they teach kids about Catholic genocide of Indigenous people. Encouraged me to ‘Google it’.

You can’t write this stuff but you CAN document it after it happens.

Yesterday my (unfairly smart) 15 year old sent me a text I shared with you about what the York Catholic District School Board is teaching kids about centuries of residential school Catholic Church directed and managed genocide.

Normally we laugh at the religious stuff he ‘learns’ in class.  Last week he was told Jesus walked on water and David Blaine proved it on TV two years ago, but this was different.

I actually called the school before crafting that Tweet because it’s the right thing to do.  I just wanted to know about the religious studies curriculum…

I spoke with my son’s VP (nameless for now) who dismissed the notion based on the CBA with the teachers union.

(BTW, he loves the school and his pals and he’s still having a blast)

About 2 minutes later she called me in a panic saying she was going to deal with it and get back to me.

This morning, she called and had a conversation with me that she was clearly reading from a prepared list of things to say when they are questioned about the residential school genocide.

I’ll paraphrase:

VP: We’re investigating the teacher and that’s all I can say for legal reasons.

ME: That’s too bad.  Can we please arrange a time for me to speak with you and someone at the York Catholic District School Board about what religious studies are teaching our kids about the travesty of the residential school genocide?

VP: Its available online and NO, we won’t be meeting with you.

ME: Are you serious?  You’re going to throw a teacher teaching your curriculum under the bus, you’re telling me to google the answers I want from you AND you’re NOT interested in talking to me about how you’re teaching Truth and Reconciliation to our kids?

VP: Goodbye.  Have a nice day.

Me: Ok, ma’am.  You have my attention.  See you soon.

What do you say we all do the right thing and send this post along with your thoughts to this big fella?

Dom looks like the kind of stand-up guy who would want to know that a VP at one of his high schools told me to google the bullshit they are teaching our kids about what his church CONTINUES to do to Indigenous genocide survivors.  Pretend like it never fucking happened and we’re all crazy and unreasonable for standing up for common fucking sense.

If there is something I really love, it’s a good old-fashioned debate about the Christian religion and how exclusive and hateful it is.

I’m going to enjoy having it every week and at the expense of the folks who want to protect the coffers of their parent company and run interference on the backs of their holocaust victims while poisoning our kids with hate.

I’ll bet their huckleberry.

Parent/Teacher night is gonna be a rip.
