Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Divorce Is The Most Expensive In History

Page Six:  Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, are divorcing after 25 years of marriage, the couple announced Wednesday.

“We want to make people aware of a development in our lives,” tweeted Bezos, the world’s richest person. “As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separate, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”

He continued: “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”

The 54-year-old sits at the top of Forbes world’s billionaires ranking, with a real-time worth of $137.4 billion.

It’s unclear if the couple has a prenuptial agreement.

They reside in Washington state, which is a “community property state” — meaning divorcing couples without a prenup split assets 50-50.

The Bezos’s evolution

You just hate to see it.  Billionaire couples going their separate ways leaving them to wade through dividing 140 billion in assets doesn’t happen every day but when it does, guys like me feel worse about the money we’ve had to fork over.

Everything’s relative I guess.  My ex has been hitting me with papers for everything from “Prove your life is what you say it is financially’ to “I don’t beleive you, show me again'” for 7 years with no end in sight.  It’s what family law allows and an angry, troubled spouse will never go away.  Not even if they get half the fortune of the richest man in the world.

Emotion traditionally rules every breakup.  Someone is always the victim and I can tell you first hand, fighting someone with a victim mentality is mentally draining.

“You caused this because you left”

“You promised till death do us part”

“You caused great suffering in my life”

“You will pay for all these things no matter what my hand in this divorce was because you embarrassed me”

Jeff Bezos has the kind of resources where he doesn’t have to bother having those conversations.  Most people don’t have the time or resources to do so.  It’s like knowing you have to get your taxes together for years on end or knowing you have to go to the dentist to have a tooth pulled in a yearly tooth pulling lottery you can’t control.

Jeffs divorce settlement according to Washington State Family law could cost him between 40 and 60 BILLION.

And he’ll pay it, happily.  Everyone does because it’s worth every, fucking, penny.

The list of people who understand this premise is long but distinguished:

Too bad there’s only one woman on this list.  Let’s hope 2019 is the year of divorce equality.

PS.  Mackenzie should be able to get those teeth whitened with all that new money.
