The wait is over!

It looks as if the Julio Jones saga has ended. Reports from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, indicate that this morning the Atlanta Falcons star receiver will be traded to the Tennessee Titans. In return, the Falcons are getting a 2022 2nd round pick and a 2023 4th round pick. The Titans will receive Julio Jones and a 2023 6th round pick. The Falcons reportedly retained none of Jones’s $15.3 million cap charge for the upcoming season, which was a hot topic involving any trade involving Jones. The Falcons will deal with just $7.75 in dead money for Jones when the trade becomes finalized; however, freeing up the $15.3 million will allow them to sign this year’s rookie class.

Twitter has exploded since the reports of the trade. Are the Titans legitimate Super Bowl contenders? Many are looking at this Titans offense as scary, dangerous, stacked, or whatever other term you fancy. The bottom line, they are big, fast, explosive, and have a little nasty streak to them already. Adding Julio Jones will only add to that corps.

No doubt getting Julio Jones will take this offense to another level. They will also welcome back star left Taylor Lewan, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October 2020. The Titans also drafted prospect Dillon Radunz from North Dakota State to shore up the right tackle position, giving them bookend tackles to protect Ryan Tannehill and pave the way for superstar running back, Derrick Henry.

The big debate is whether their defense is improved enough to be considered serious contenders. In free agency, they added veteran cornerback, Janoris Jenkins, and linebacker Bud Dupree to help fill some gaps. The Titans also used a first-round pick on a talented cornerback in Caleb Farley from Virginia Tech, who most had to go in the top 10 before a back surgery scared some teams off, allowing him to fall to 22 for the Titans to pick. These major additions will join the likes of defensive end Jeffery Simmons, linebackers Harold Landry III and Rashaan Evans, and free safety, Kevin Byard.

Even if this defense is remotely effective, it will be hard to hang with the Titans this coming season, and teams will have to score a lot to overcome the power of this offense. This trade adds to the fact that this team was a powerhouse in the AFC last year, is getting key players back from injury, and have made some big additions through free agency, the draft, and now via trades!
