Blue Jays March Towards First World Series Title Since 1993 Starts Tomorrow
We are now one day away from the Toronto Blue Jays kicking off their 2023 MLB campaign. The Jays are set to face off against the St. Louis Cardinals on Opening Day, which will be held in St. Louis.
This upcoming season is poised to be a unique one, as all 30 MLB teams will face each other at least once. This will equate to a total of 46 games between National League and American League teams. Additionally, each team will only face their division rivals 13 times, compared to the 19 times in previous seasons.
The starting pitchers for the opening game will be Blue Jays’ Alek Manoah and the Cardinals’ Miles Mikolas. Manoah is fresh off a third-place finish in the American League Cy Young Award voting for the 2022 season, where he recorded a 2.24 ERA across 196 and two-thirds innings. Mikolas struggled last season, finishing with a disappointing 12-13 record, however, he still had a strong 3.29 ERA.
Meanwhile, Blue Jays’ shortstop Bo Bichette is coming off an impressive camp, where he excelled in Grapefruit League play and garnered widespread praise from teammates and coaches. Bichette’s strong play comes after a slow start to the 2022 season, but he finished strongly with a dominant September.
Toronto’s batting lineup is expected to be a fluid one, with a rotation of catchers Alejandro Kirk and Danny Jansen, as well as infielders Cavan Biggio and Santiago Espinal. The Blue Jays are also known for their aggressive running style and will likely look to push that aspect from day one.
The baseball offseason takes forever. Spring Training is a teaser that only makes you want competitive baseball even more. But, for Toronto baseball fans, we only have one more sleep before the Blue Jays bring back the summer, and start their march towards their first World Series title since 1993.
