Boatman Hold Off Lowly Blue Bomber in OT Win

Jul 28, 2024

The Toronto Argonauts secured a narrow victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a final score of 16-14 in overtime on July 27, 2024. This game showcased a standout performance from the Argonauts’ defence, which played a crucial role in the win by forcing five turnovers and scoring the team’s only touchdown.

Lirim Hajrullahu kicked a 34-yard field goal in overtime to clinch the victory for Toronto. This came after Winnipeg’s Sergio Castillo missed a field goal attempt from 41 yards, allowing the Argonauts to win the game.

The Argonauts’ defence was instrumental, scoring a touchdown and stopping Winnipeg on critical plays. Tavarus McFadden returned an interception for a touchdown, which was a pivotal moment in the match.

Despite the win, the Argonauts’ offence struggled significantly, recording only 205 net yards and 12 first downs throughout the game. Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie criticized the offensive performance, calling it the worst he had experienced.

The Blue Bombers controlled much of the first half, out gaining the Argonauts in total yards. However, they could not capitalize on their early dominance, suffering their second consecutive loss and falling to 0-4 on the road this season.

This victory marked the Argonauts’ third home win of the season, improving their record to 4-3 and look to win their first game in Calgary since 2021, while the Bombers dropped to 2-6 and face the best in west BC.
