As Super Bowl Sunday creeps closer and closer, there is a debate among football fans. Who is better, Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes? Now, I picked Tom because he’s the reason I love football and am a die-hard Patriots fan, but what if I told you there is no debate to have on the matter?
Now, I say this for a couple of reasons, the first being that both played in different eras of the NFL; even though there was a lap for five seasons, the truth is that when Tom was in his prime, the NFL was a much different league than it is in the year 2024. The second is, why bother debating a matter like this? It mainly stems from videos on major networks like ESPN and Fox Sports. Exhibits A and B are below.
You only see debates like this in the USA with topics like Lebron VS Michael and now Patrick VS Tom. However, here in Canada, you don’t have crazy hot take artists and debates like these because when it comes to hockey, our sport, we all know that the GOAT is Wayne Gretzky and that every player who has played the game at the elite level of the NHL played differently and is great in there own regards, like Crosby, Ovechkin, Howe, Orr, and McDavid are all different players in their way. We can appreciate that without making it into some dumb debate for clicks and views.
Now, circling back to my original point, When it comes to Tom Brady, he was great for 20+ years, and if you loved him as I do or hated him because, well, you love to hate those on top, everyone respected the game and appreciated the greatness and years of sustained success that we may never see again. Then with Patrick, we are witnessing greatness in front of us; six years, 6 AFC Championship games, 4 Super Bowl Appearances as of Sunday, and potentially a 3rd Super Bowl in 6 seasons is goddamn remarkable. I want NFL fans to look at what is in front of them and appreciate it instead of finding ways to make it one or the other. Don’t take greatness for granted because who knows how long a run like this will last for Patrick Mahomes.
Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
