Canadian Pollster Angus Reid Just Destroyed His Reputation, And Possibly His 40 Year Career With One Tweet

Let’s take Angus Reid tweeting a doctored video spreading hate speech and disinformation while not doing basic research as a teachable moment:

Angus Reid is a man and a brand. He’s been a pollster for four decades, and his research has been the gold standard in Canada (next to EKOS) forever.

But someone burned down a Catholic Church in Quebec last week, and Angus decided to launch this tweet (he’s a devout/extreme Catholic).

The tweet was created and edited by a BC MAPLEMAGA psycho who’s a firehose of pro-Russian/anti-Canada hate propaganda. It was heavily edited to make it sound like Justin Trudeau didn’t have a problem with the Church’s burning to the ground, citing anger towards the Catholic Church’s genocide of Indigenous people.

Reid deleted the tweet a day later, claiming he had no idea that the video from a pro-Russian troll was heavily edited and proceeded to call anyone who took issue with his “shortsighted” decision to spread nuclear disinformation “Truanons” (Pejorative term for anyone who happens to like Trudeau).

Here’s the thing: if you sell yourself as the gold standard in research, wouldn’t you research something before you tweet it?

And here’s another thing: the Catholic Church in Quebec that went up like a bunch of ladyfingers? It was sold and deconsecrated 11 years ago to pay off HUNDRED of priest pedophile lawsuits because that Church was a pedophile factory along with almost every Catholic Church everywhere, ever.

That’s “divorced from reality” shit right there.

Did Angus Reid not know any of that? Canada’s most accurate researcher had no idea that this “Church” hadn’t been a “Church” for over a decade and was being turned into affordable housing before he asserted a lie as fact for effect. He wants us to believe that.

I’m not buying it for a bunch of reasons. One is this Angus Reid Tweet suggesting residential schools weren’t a thing, and his Catholic masters never killed a single child. It’s the calling card of a colonial religious zealot in 2024.

Religious Zealots are anything but Unbiased with their work.

The REAL problem with Reid’s intentional gaslighting.

The Canadian polling industry is being reduced to ashes today –  generalized as biased in an already beleaguered polling sector. Depending on the bias of the person reading a given poll, every poll is now biased in favor of who that poll may or may not help.

Angus Reid is human, like Franky Graves and David Colletto. They are allowed to have personal opinions and biases, and they do.

Angus’s “humanity” is less of a mistake and more of an extreme emotional reaction based on his core beliefs. At his core, Mr. Reid thinks Jesus rose from the dead, the Catholic Church is his lodestar, and he hates facts if they pierce his core beliefs—extreme cognitive bias based on religious faith (faith is defined as a belief based on religious apprehension void of fact). Those core beliefs, coupled with his recent tweets, would suggest Mr Reid has a destructive agenda based on anger instead of fact. He appears to be more of an angry older man tired of pretending he isn’t biased. Even his half-assed apology suggests he doesn’t give a shit about the truth, saying he still hates Trudeau’s anti-Catholic Church stance – which came from the doctored video – which he admitted was bullshit. Yet, he is still parroting that bullshit in his apology?

That’s fucking weird – And it doesn’t exactly breed confidence in ANY of his work or the work of anyone associated with Angus Reid. His company, Angus Reid, by their founder’s recent comments and behavior, can’t be taken seriously, not that I ever took Satchi Kurl or Angus Reid seriously. If you’ve seen them pretend to be journalists on TV, you can tell they’re carrying mail, massaging their “Public Opinion” work into spin.

Are Polls “Bought” or “Biased”

A lot of them are. Over the past decade, political parties and their media partners have spent considerable time and money “curating” relationships with polling companies. Musk’s super friend Peter Thiel pays Nate Silver from FiveThirtyEight. Dozens of US and Canadian polling companies have popped up over the last decade, most owned by media/political lobbyists because they know the importance of controlling public opinion.

Canada’s polling companies have traditionally been relatively unbiased, but I don’t know the content of the character of most of them. And remember, they’re all human, so I’m sure “public opinion” surveys have been torqued in the past for whatever reasons. Polling pros who do public opinion research have been vilified by mobs of assholes who just don’t like specific results. The anti-expert crowd (Generally people who espouse the same uneducated views as Mr Reid does) have spent the last five years telling doctors, psychologists, and other experts they’re corrupt too. It’s a dangerous fad, and Mr. Reid just turned every polling company into a perceived activist platform used to curate bullshit public opinion based on a lazy attempt to spread disinformation.

It’s not something the president of Angus Reid should be doing if he claims not to be in the pocket of the Conservative Party of Canada, PC Party of Ontario, which spreads the same lazy information for the same desired result.

Maybe less cheerleading might help, Angus.

And maybe just apologize and say you fucked up, and it’s not the kind of tweet Angus Reid of Angus Reid should be sharing, and you’ll vette accounts before you share disinformation as religious hate porn.
