Canadian World Junior Hockey Captain Refusing To Remove His Helmet For Russian Anthem After 6-0 Blowout Loss Is Bush League

Barrett Hayton didn’t remove his helmet for the Russian anthem and Russia’s players were not pleased about it pic.twitter.com/thv5tCj82F

That’s a bush-league move by the Canadian Captain Barrett Hayton who has played enough hockey to know better.
I dig the fact the Russian Captain took offense to Hayton not removing his helmet. I don’t care about getting spanked soundly because my identity isn’t wrapped up in a game played by 16-19-year-olds
I’m not saying you should be angry at the young man but he probably could’ve removed the bucket. It’s not like international courtesy stops when you finally lose a hockey game, Mr. Hayton.
Today Barrett Hayton, captain of Team Canada’s world junior hockey team displayed one of the most embarrassing acts of character I have ever seen in hockey. Needs to issue a statement of apology now… or cut him mid tournament

Bench him to send a signal it will not be tolerated. In victory or defeat it is a game that’s all. Show respect. #WJC2020 @TeamCanada

Well this picture didn’t age well, seeing as stripping Hayton of his Captaincy is really the only proper course of action after that show of complete and utter classlessness after the Russia trouncing

I don’t disagree but I hope it’s a teachable moment for Barrett. More importantly, give Russia credit for kicking our asses and asking for the respect they deserved.
