CAR PORN: Meet the Mini Hoonitruck!

This is Alex Saint’s ‘Hoonitruck’ Honda N600. It’s a masterclass in the study of overpowered go-karts and internet baiting. Gone is the original 36 horsepower engine, replaced with one from a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 sport bike that makes 190 horsepower and sits in the truck’s bed behind the cabin. Better weight distribution you see. The engine probably wouldn’t fit under the N600’s tiny hood either.
Alex bought the little Honda while working down in Florida. He was on the lookout for something small and economical to offset his massive lifted truck. They don’t come much smaller than the N600, so Alex bought it, loaded it in the bed of his truck, and carted it on home. After it sat unloved for a year and a half he decided to do something special with the little pickup and set about building his own version of the latest creation from viral video juggernaut Ken Block: The 900 horsepower F150 ‘Hoonitruck’.
Alex’s version has a full tube chassis to handle the bike engine’s power without breaking in half; a wise choice considering that the N600’s current motor is 5 times more powerful than the original Honda unit. The transmission’s a sequential six speed with the clutch operated by lever on the shifter left over from its previous life on a motorcycle. You’ve got to put the clutch in when you use the brakes to stop the engine fighting against them. The truck pulls hard through all six gears and the back end is all too happy to step out round corners so extremely quick steering reactions are needed to make sure you don’t end up facing the way you’ve come.
The truck’s exterior is the work of Jason Brozak at Just the Dipz, who plasti-dipped EVERYTHING on the body with stencils “for the bragging rights”. The underlying Hoonitruck jagged-camo livery would be impressive enough, but all the sponsor logos and decals are recreated and stenciled on perfectly as well before a clear coat of dip. One detail that I really like is the way that Alex’s truck incorporates its Honda and Suzuki badges into the existing Hoonitruck livery. The Honda badges are done in Ford blue and white and the banner over the windscreen replaces Ford Performance with Suzuki Performance while keeping the font and the look exactly the same. Bragging rights are all yours Mr Brozak!
This project is genius. Kenny B’s Hoonigan fleet contains some of the most popular cars on the internet and this pint-sized tribute can’t fail to draw well-deserved attention to itself. I’d put money on seeing this thing in a video with the full-sized Hoonitruck at some point in the future. In the mean time you’ll find it at the drag strip running 12.4 second 1/4 miles. Alex has plans to add a turbo with the goal of making 400 horsepower and giving the N600 a power/weight ratio of 820 hp/tonne. Yikes!
