Aston Martin seems to have developed a taste for mid-engined cars. Hot on the heels of the Valkyrie there’s the RB 003 and this, the new Vanquish Vision Concept. Its engine is, you guessed it, behind the driver. That’s significant because until very recently Astons have always had their engine up front.

I really like how this thing looks with the styling elements taken from the Valkyrie. Aston’s hyper-flagship has amazing engine and F1 nerdery-galore but it’s not exactly pretty. The Vanquish smooths those lines and makes them pretty. It’s not about being scarily fast, it’s about being still-very-fast but looking good too. There’s style here that’s lacking in the Valkyrie. It’s every bit as elegantly formed as I’d hope that a Brit taking on Ferrari’s A-Team would be.

It’ll get a version of the turbo hybrid V6 from the RB 003 and will probably need to debut with about 800 horsepower just to get a look in by the time it goes on sale in 2022. They’ll need to launch it with a bang and it absolutely cannot be much slower than the cars McLaren and Ferrari are making by then. The gas engine should be pretty similar to the one in the 003 but it’ll have less electrical help to make sure it doesn’t outshine the baby Valkyrie. Roll on 2022 I say; this thing looks great!
