CAR PORN: The TVR Speed 12 Turbo is a Modernized Monster

Remember the TVR Speed 12 from yesterday? The car that was cancelled for being too fast and too brutal for public consumption? Remember it needing more power? No? A handful of ex-TVR employees disagree. They’ve resurrected the Speed 12 and now it’s got turbos and one thousand and twelve horsepower. It’s pants-shittingly fast.

The old 7.7 litre V12 made about 960 horsepower. The new car gets rid of that old-timey power plant and replaces it with a shiny new 5.9 litre block from Aston Martin. For good measure, and because the demonic spirit of the old car lives within the new one, twin BorgWarner turbos are bolted onto the new V12.

On the outside, the Turbo looks much like the original Speed 12 with more carbon fibre but it’s more than that. The new car stays true to the original recipe of acid and speed but it also enjoys all the modern racecar bits that have been developed since the original in 1997. It now has full carbon fibre bodywork, center-lock race wheels, and a titanium exhaust so it’s much lighter than the original with all the handling benefits that come with the diet.

The result is a car that weighs just 300 lbs more than a Mazda Miata and will do 180 mph at a lazy half throttle. The price for this 1012 horsepower terror machine? $2.1 million.

Here are some lunatics.
