Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Says Orlando Brown Joined The Darkside Signing With Bengals

Mar 31, 2023

The Kansas City Chiefs have just experienced the aftermath of being Super Bowl champions. In an interview with Deion Sanders, tight end Martellus Bennett, who was a pending free agent at the time of the New England Patriots’ historic Super Bowl comeback against the Atlanta Falcons, made the statement that “teams overpay for Super Bowl champions.” This is a sentiment that has been proven to be true as the Chiefs just lost offensive tackle Orlando Brown to the Cincinnati Bengals, who signed with them as a free agent.

Travis Kelce, who has played for the Chiefs since being drafted by them back in the 2013 NFL Draft, expressed his disappointment over Brown’s departure from the team. Speaking on his New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, via the Kansas City Star, Kelce said, “It hurts. It hurts my soul, man. Hurts my soul. It’s like watching your best friend just turn evil on you.” He went on to explain that the past two years have been particularly tough on the team when it comes to facing the Bengals, and that Brown’s move to their side feels like a betrayal.

Kelce also acknowledged that Brown was an important part of the team’s success, calling him an “unbelievable leader” and teammate, and wishing him nothing but the best. It remains to be seen how the Chiefs will fare in the upcoming season without Brown, but for now, the loss still stings. As Bennett predicted, teams will overpay for Super Bowl champions, and the Chiefs are now feeling the effects of this reality.
