Connor McDavid Looking To Cement His Legacy

Griff Bordignon Jun 6, 2024

The Edmonton Oilers are 4 wins away from getting the cup back north of the border for the first time since 1993. They carved out a path that is different from what a lot of other teams have had in the past.

After a 3-9-1 start, head coach Jay Woodcroft was fired as head coach and opened the door for McDavid’s JR coach from Erie, Kris Knoblauch took the helm as head coach, and the Oilers haven’t looked back since. Knoblauch led the Oilers to a regular season record of 46-18-5, so there was a good amount of improvement.

The playoffs got off to a smooth start for Edmonton as they took out the LA Kings for a third straight year in 5 games, then they had a war with their fellow country team the Vancouver Canucks, that Edmonton took in a 7 game war.

Then it was Dallas who beat the last two cup champs just to get to the Western Final, and I had Dallas in 5 but I was wrong, which included McDavid putting Miro Heiskanen in a blender in a clinching game 6, a highlight that will follow McDavid for his career.

Now, for as much as I could talk about the team and their journey and story, it’s McDavid who stands out for me and should for everyone else. He was touted as a 15-year-old with the AAA Toronto Marlboros and was lighting up the OHL with the Erie Otters before being selected number 1 by Edmonton in 2015 where he was tasked with bringing a once historic franchise back to glory. Now, he’s four wins away from glory and giving Edmonton the team’s first cup in 34 years.

He’s always been but he doesn’t have his cup attached to him, he’s put up numerous seasons where he’s a hall of famer and the Stanley Cup would be the cherry on top.

The rest of the Edmonton team will have to rise to the occasion, especially Stuart Skinner who sure has had his ups and downs but in the conference finals for three straight games has held the fort down. The penalty kill has killed 93% of all penalties these playoffs, something that Florida will look to avoid and score on the power play and most importantly, Connor McDavid will look to get around Sasha Barkov who has shut down the elite of the elite in the NHL these playoffs.

Hey, if it truly comes down to things, there is one lady who may have helped the Oilers more than people think, so can Edmonton return the Stanley Cup home? only time will tell.

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
