Heritage classic rock radio station Q107 announced they had finally parted ways with Derringer yesterday. This comes as a third party continues investigating the numerous abuse allegations that stemmed from Jennifer Valentyne’s public abuse claims a couple of months ago.

A LOT of people are celebrating the ‘mutual’ parting of ways. We love our pound of flesh, don’t we? Regardless of the human cost, we’ll dance on any grave as long as we get to show a bunch of woke knobs how with it we are.

Did John verbally abuse people over his 35+ year career as a radio host? Yup. We used to call it ‘yelling,’ and we’ve all yelled at someone. I’m sure you have, and if you say you haven’t, you’re lying. We all have.

John’s receipts came due. They usually do.

John had a habit of yelling at people who worked for him and went WAY too far with personal insults and did it for years. I believe all of the people who’ve come forward, but I also feel for those who lost while doing their best for themselves and their families.

That list includes both of his co-hosts, John Garbutt and Ryan Parker, who are now out of work and have been lumped into the abuse mix, but no one seems to give a shit about them while using John as a pinata.

I know Garbutt and Ryan. You won’t find better men. They were subjected to the same environment John’s accusers faced. For almost two decades, Ryan and John went to work under the same conditions, dealing with the same toxic bullshit. Legally, they probably can’t comment. I haven’t spoken to either of them but know exactly how this works.

Everyone negotiates against the term left on John’s contract. If they want to get paid, they sign legal documents that forbid them from discussing the particulars and that jail lasts for seven years.

For showing up to work religiously for 20 years at 3 am to set the table for John, they have been effectively put on that radio ice floe no one comes back from. For doing their jobs.

Unseen collateral damage and resulting human cost never gets factored into the mix when we cheer on the self-righteous mob.

Ryan is a father to two boys and a lovely wife.

John Garbutt got married again after losing his wife to cancer years ago.

Q’s program director, Tammy Cole, is, by all accounts, an excellent person who does a great job and took direction when dealing with John.

John’s wife and kids have been used to performance tweet the glee in John’s demise.

Salespeople, promo, and support staff at Corus and Q will lose revenue, making it harder to support their families, leading to more job losses in a struggling industry.

But at least competing broadcasters and virtue-signaling hypocrites got their licks in. They are driving self-importance by dancing on the graves of anyone associated with John. I mean, that’s the real goal here.

I’m happy John’s accusers have closure. He did the things they accused him of. He did this and was allowed to.

CORUS worked hard to keep him in the building for a bunch of reasons; – – protecting against the human cost and collateral damage

• protecting revenue and ratings

• protecting decisions makers and enablers

In a diminishing industry with diminishing returns, it happens. It’s happening at Rogers, Bell, Stingray, Rogers, and CORUS. It’s systemic, and people stay quiet to keep their jobs. Not just in media, it’s everywhere. It’s wrong, but it’s everywhere, as is the collateral damage no one hears about.

Try to keep that in mind. Or not.

John made his bed. He’s lying in it, and if you’re angry, his contract must be satisfied; you don’t know how this works. You don’t know about the process other than the tweets you gleefully RT for performance points with your crew.

I feel for the people whose lives were circumcised by systemic abuse they were subjected to AS WELL.

As much as I feel sorry for Mo, Jennifer Andrea, and Jacqui, I think for the people who lost their jobs and careers by trying to keep their jobs.

I feel for the commuter who loved listening to Q on their way to work. They lost too.

Everyone did, and it sounds like that makes some of you very happy.

And it’s worth saying. John was good to me. We had our issues, but he was generous. The only difference between the John in your mind now and the John from 6 months ago?

You found out he was a total asshole to his coworkers.

He raised millions for charities and is still a father and a husband. He was also highly successful in tricky business for a long time.

He’s paying the tax now, and I’m sure he knows. Or maybe not. Not our Job.
