Don Cherry Finally Apologizes, Changes His Whole Story. Jesus, Dude

Hey Don, make up your mind.

Total bullshit.  I’m sorry, I know he’s hurting but 24 hours ago Don basically told anyone who had a problem with his bigoted rant to eat a bag of D’s and now he’s suddenly sorry?

Either someone read some tweets from 80% of the country who had a serious problem with his rant last Saturday night on Coaches Corner, or a family member walked him through it word for word OR, he’s trying to play us for morons.

Yesterday, mouth breathers rejoiced when Don stood steadfast against all those PC pussies and ethnic immigrants who took issue with his comments on Saturday.   He came out with ‘fuck you guns’ a blazing in an interview with Barb DeGiulio on Newstalk 1010 which you can listen to HERE.

Source:“I could’ve stayed on if I wanted to and knuckled under, and turned into a simp, but that’s not my style,” Cherry said Monday night in an interview with Toronto radio station Newstalk 1010. “I’m unemployed now after 38 years. It’s kind of strange to be unemployed, halfway through the season. And of all days Remembrance Day. It’s sad.”

“If I had gone on and said a few things and done a few things, I definitely would have been back,” he said. “If you’re not going to be yourself on television, then what’s the sense in doing it?”

Don then took a backhanded shit on his battery mate of 30 years, Ron McLean for apologizing which led to Ron being torn a new asshole by 1) every single mouthbreather on the planet who #standswithDon and 2) every performance tweeting asswipe blaming him for allowing Don’s segment to air.  Poor Ron can’t win and he sat there like Robert DeNiro In ‘Awakenings’ at the beginning and the end of the movie.  Not so much the middle.

Ron MacLean, the longtime co-host who flashed a thumbs-up sign at the end of Saturday’s segment, apologized Sunday for staying silent during Cherry’s remarks.

Cherry told DiGiulio that he stills considers MacLean a friend, though he wasn’t happy to see the apology. “The only thing I can say about that is I’m disappointed. I think anybody that knew Ron was disappointed. That’s all I’ll say about that,” he said.

Asked what he would be doing next Saturday night, Cherry said that he would “be sitting, having a couple of beers, watching and wondering who’s going to be on at the end of the first period.”

***By the way, Newstalk 1010 is the sister station of Sportsnet’s rival, TSN which is owned by BELL who’ve all of a sudden backed off their ‘No Don Cherry’ rule and I LOVE the gamesmanship.  CP24 and CTV are also Bell Properties and Don’s been on all of em.  It rubs all kinds of salt in the wound at Sportsnet…genius.

I’d also like to point out Don has now completely changed his memory of how his mtg with HNIC executives went;

Yesterday

“I could’ve stayed on if I wanted to and knuckled under, and turned into a simp, but that’s not my style,”

AAAAND, Today

“First of all, I said, ‘you people out there, I would have changed that if I had the chance to do it over again to ‘everybody,’ to work it in like that,  I can see how it hurt some people, I really can see it, but I would have said that, and I said if I hurt anybody, then I’m sorry about it.”

“I think that it could have been smoothed over. I think that it could’ve, I think I could’ve said things to help people if they are hurt,” the 85-year-old former NHL coach said. “But if you get fired right off the bat. It’s not going to change now.”

“We could have worked something out Saturday, but they didn’t want to have anything to do with that.”

The best part of this about-face?

What on earth are all the people who sacrificed their reputation and pride on Twitter in support of Don’s words and position going to say now he’s sorry and admits he was wrong???

Like Darren Lampman:

And Joe Panaia:

And this meat:

And Paul, too!

Maybe they’ll chase Don around Twitter for hanging his seemingly bigoted fans out to dry or maybe they’ll all do what most of you did today, delete those tweets.   Cherry emboldened racists dicks with his FTW speech and walked it back before you could hit delete. OHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!

No matter WTF happens with Don, be happy he’s seen the light and don’t question his motives.  An apology works almost always and more effective PRIOR to telling the world to S your D.

I can’t wait for tomorrow’s version of the story.

BTW, I’ve found Don’s replacement:

My man Jas put this out last night and I’m in.

Make it happen SN.  You’re welcome.
