I came in a little hot last week. I said some things that some may want to take back after going 7-8, but that is not the case here. In fact, I’m going to double down. If you think Week 1 means anything then you are sadly mistaken. Nobody does well Week 1.
I mean take a look at some of last weeks winners for god sake. The Chiefs beat the Patriots. Whom many believed would go undefeated this season. Then you saw the Lions, Jaguars, and Rams win games. The fucking Rams. Seriously.
Not to mention the Jets, Bears, and Browns were all competitive. Like what in the actual fuck. Week 1 was actually ridiculous. It was so laughably improbable that the three best quarterbacks from last week were arguably Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, and Jared Goff.
Just to be clear. Jared Goff threw only five touchdowns to seven interceptions last season, and had a quarterback rating of 63.6. He fucking sucked. Sam Bradford is a proverbial loser. And Alex Smith although under-rated, has never completed a pass further than ten yards in his life.
So what’s the biggest takeaways from Week 1?
It’s fucking hard to win in the NFL.
Everyone watches the asshole Patriots, who make it look so easy, and think that’s how it is. It’s not. Sometimes you spend so much time jerking yourself off on national television, still gloating about your five Super Bowls that you forget that you actually have to play a god damn football game.
Everyone gets a sweet hand once in awhile
Things aren’t always what they seem in the NFL. Sometimes a player, or team draws a good matchup, and looks spectacular. And then crashes into reality the next week. I promise you the Rams aren’t as good, as their 46-9 win over the Colts made them look. And your best quarterbacks this week aren’t Sam Bradford, or Trevor Siemian.
It’s impossible to win without a quarterback
Don’t believe me? Ask the Colts and Texans. Which reminds me. How is Kaepernick not on one of these squads? But I digress. Tom Savage who played like anything but a savage, threw for all of 62 yards. Then the Colts, who decided to put their faith in Scott Tolzien, threw about as many interceptions as he did completions. Both teams lost by a lot of points.

Games to watch
Eagles vs. Chiefs
This is going to be a sneaky good game. The Eagles are coming off an impressive win over the Redskins. And Carson Wentz looked like the quarterback Philadelphia hoped he would be. This isn’t the Redskins they’re playing however. Kansas City has a stout defence, and a steady offence. I know the Chiefs looked like a juggernaut offensively against the Patriots in Week 1, but I promise you that won’t be the norm.
Look for a Chiefs win at home.
Cowboys vs. Broncos
This is one of those games in which no one knows who to pick. The Cowboys are young, hungry, and talented with a capital T. But the Broncos are no ones slouch. Defensively they’re one of the leagues best, and Trevor Siemian looked like the real deal against the Chargers. My heart screams Cowboys, but realistically I don’t see them beating the Broncos in Mile High.
Look for a tight win at home for the Broncos.
Packers vs. Falcons
If you’re looking for a defensive war this is not the game for you. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that there will be a lot of points scored in this game. You’ve got two of the very best quarterbacks in the game going head-to-head, and they have a supporting cast to back them up. This will by far be your game of the week.
Look for the Falcons to close out the game with a late 4th quarter score at home.
Lions vs. Giants
Who would’ve thought that the Lions and Giants would be a game to watch. But the future of these teams seasons will lay in this game. If the Lions win, they’ll be off to a 2-0 start, and will add some legitimacy to a struggling franchise. Where as if the Giants lose, they’ll become a running joke for the season, and will likely start to look for Eli’s replacement come seasons end.
Look for the Lions to surprise some people on the road with another late 4th quarter comeback.
