DTTB Ep.64 – THE GLORIOUS SONS ARE BACK WITH SOME UNFINISHED BUSINESS

I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little bit proud to be the first guy to have played The Glorious Sons on radio. It was almost 10 years ago, at the time I was the Program/Music Director at the once legendary K-Rock in Kingston. A city with an obvious, and celebrated musical history. I’ve always believed in trying to push new music, while working in radio that was something that I always fought for.
Now, that doesn’t mean that I think I had anything to do with their success. I didn’t “break” or “discover” the band. I’m glad that I was in a position to do something with a great song (Mama) and the ability to help share it with the audience.
Anyone with a shred of musical sense could see it. This was a band to watch, a band that had the potential to do exactly what they’ve done over the last decade. And it has to be tough for a young band from Kingston coming up, it has to feel like you’re always going to live in the shadow of our beloved Tragically Hip.
In fact, they gave us a wonderful tribute to Gord Downie long before one was so dearly needed. This is from 2014, tell me that it isn’t to acknowledge that this barefooted front man was going to be a star?? It doesn’t take a genius, in fact if you don’t see it you’re clearly missing something
Over their relatively short career they’ve racked up 11 Top 10 singles on Canadian Radio with three of them hitting #1. Panic Attack and S.O.S also went #1 in the US.
Chris Koster was an active and prolific musician in Kingston in those early years, he joined the band sometime in 2013 or 2014. In the podcast, I hit them with a little mix of something from Chris’ catalogue and a snippet of a TGS song. Also managed to work in an Old Dirty Bastard comparison… You’ll just have to watch 😉
They’re also one of the first Canadian artists to return to the road. They recently announced their “Unfinished Business Tour” with JJ Wilde, starting in the US in December and making it’s way through Canada in the new year, wrapping with a 3 night stand at Massey Hall in Toronto.
I’m always excited to see what these guys will do next, especially after emerging with some new, self produced un-cut/pure Rock n’ Roll!

The goal of my podcast is to provide people who are passionate about rock with a new and innovative connection to the Canadian Music Industry and the bands and artists they love and support.”
