Evander Kane Vs. Jeff O’Neill Is A NHL Beef We Didn’t Know We Needed
I would like to begin this article by giving credit where credit is due. I know I normally dump on MSM sports talk radio but in this case I’ll give some props. Overdrive is the best local sports radio program and it’s not even close. Jeff O’Neil, Noodles and Brian Hayes do a great job pushing the envelope and truly do not hold back when they talk about a piss poor performance by the Maple Leafs. Why is this the case? Overdrive brings in tons of money for TSN and is LITERALLY the only good radio program on the airwaves in Southern Ontario. They kind of hover in Dean Blundell territory when he had a 40 share at the Edge (not saying they have a 40 share because no one has touched that record since the big dog left),more referring to that they bring in truckloads of money so management gives them a bit longer of a leash on what they can and can’t say. If I am driving in my car between 3-6 and out of podcasts to listen to I am throwing on Overdrive.
Ok, now since I am finished licking their bums let’s talk about the beef we didn’t know we needed. Evander Kane vs. Jeff O’Neil.
According to reports Jeff made some comments about Evander Kane’s relationship with his daughter. Here are said comments.
“To hear the term ‘bad guy’… in the hockey world that’s a scary comment.”

Did it cross the line, sure. Is it true? Perhaps. Should Jeff have said it on a sports talk radio show, I don’t think so. Here is what Evander Kane said in a recent interview.
Via Reddit Kane was not happy with “O-Dog”, as he’s known to fans, for something he said while on air.
“You know, the other day I’m listening to a radio show my buddy sent me via text. It’s Jeff O’Neill talking. He said something about me in a negative way and then followed it up by saying ‘he needs to have a better relationship with his daughter.’ Infuriated is an understatement, when I heard that. You are literally making a judgment about my relationship with my daughter and trying to use that to portray me in a negative way? That’s ridiculous. Disgusting. That’s crossing the line. I wish Jeff played in the NHL right now.”
Friend of the website Kayla Gray ( she’s not she’s come after us on twitter numerous times, but again I have to give credit where credit is due she is INCREDIBLE at her job) who conducted the interview asked Kane to clarify those comments, Kane responded with the comments needed no clarification.
Kane currently has full custody of his one-year-old daughter. He was granted that in court in December. The court’s ruling came after a flurry of social media posts from Kane’s ex-wife accusing him of various things. None of it has ever been proven in a court of law.
Like or hate Kane, every SINGLE parent would likely be pretty upset if someone publicly questioned their relationship with their child. Jeff is no coward I am 100% positive he will be mentioning this on the air today and will either eat his words and apologize or double down. I’m hoping for the latter.
Kane has a deal in place with the Edmonton Oilers for the remainder of the season. He is expected to play with the team as early as this weeked.
Now this is where things get interesting. Let’s say for arguments sake Kane busts it wide open for the Oilers and has a really good game. On TSN the player of the game has an interview at the end of the game with the NHL on TSN panel, guess who sits on that panel. Yup, Jeff O’Neil. I am praying the stars align and Kane has the game of his life on TSN and has to do the post game interview with the panel ands Jeff. Now that’s must see TV.
Like I said this is the beef we didn’t know we needed. Cheers!
