For these 63 people, it started with a “Bag of Weed”

If I had a dime bag for every time I heard that phrase “a bag of weed” I would have a lot… of weed.

Usually, it’s a good thing when you hear those words, unless it comes from a cop as in “I think I found us here a bag of weed!” followed up by a simple complicated bullshit charge of “possession of marijuana”.  This tactic has been a favorite of cops over the years for ruining peoples lives to a lesser charge.

Recently, one simple ” possession of marijuana” charge was stuck to 63 people from a house party! That must be some kind of Guinness World Record?

This little incident happened last year at a 2018 house party in Carterville, Georgia that got out of hand, In a nutshell, someone called the police on this party, resulting in the cops finding a handgun and a one-ounce bag of weed. It sounds like the cops weren’t even too bothered by the handgun, as it’s everyone’s right to own a firearm. Resulting, in the cops holding 63 people in jail for over 48 hours on for a “single count of marijuana possession”.

Up until now, I thought that was a single charge kind of thing, I had no idea it could be attached to more than one person let alone 63 people. I think the significance of the 63 black people can be probably attributed to some obvious racist officers. Clearly, there was no other ethnic color involved so racism is a safe call. These cops locked up these folks for over 48 hours and probably went above and beyond to make their stay a “memorable” one.

What are the takeaways here? Aside from avoiding burning fatties in places like Carterville, Georgia.

  • Some things never change as racial profiling is the “new black”, especially when it comes to different places in the world. Using a “marijuana possession” to start your arrest process is never a good thing. Cops have always used this opening manoeuvre to start shaking the tree.
  • I am thinking it is safe to say, without a shadow of a doubt, this incident was racially motivated. Because if this was a group of white people with an ounce, in a different neighbourhood like Beverly Hills or even Toronto, I doubt things would have gone this way.

So next time you are in an unfamiliar place looking to chill, just make sure you are aware of the surrounding because trust me, you don’t want to be busted for DWA – Driving While Asian.

Stay Elevated!

BTW…Did someone say a “Bag of Weed”?

Cannabis Phil

It has been amazing to see the cannabis industry grow exponentially over a couple of years, to see this kind of growth is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I first started in the industry as a writer/photographer for High! Canada Magazine, interviewing some top people in the cannabis space. Eventually, I started doing content/video work, social media coverage of various cannabis events across North America, catching the pulse of what was going on and partaking in a quite a few sessions, meeting some truly amazing people on the way. In my previous enslavement (aka "career"), I was involved in the business side of things, so I do have an invested interest in the business aspect. Coming into my somewhat “village elder years”, I hope to bridge the gap between generations, in hopes of breaking the stigma and showing others it's okay to get high, while possibly showing them how. My passion for cannabis and writing covers; strain reviews, vapes, dabs, shatter, social media coverage of events, new products, patient advocacy, innovations and the business of cannabis.
