Turning 50 this year has certainly changed my perspective on life. If you asked me to jump into an ice bath a couple of years ago I would have said “Hell no!” I hate the cold, as my island blood prefers warmer climates. The biggest thing about turning 50 is that you are not going to a lot of weddings, but rather you attend a lot more funerals. The last six months have been crazy and sometimes you just realize life is too short and it is okay to push yourself out of your comfort zones. Maybe this is part of maturing? Maybe you sometimes it makes you realize how short life is, so why not do things that challenge us and push us out of our comfort zones?
Now some of you guys are probably thinking WTF is Wim Hof?
Wim Hof is a gentleman and an innovator from Amsterdam, whose own life challenges made him question life, as he went down his own personal journey that resulted in the Wim Hof Method. The Wim Hof Method is based on the three pillars; Breathing Technique, Cold Exposure, and Commitment. Through this method, you can utilize oxygen and cold exposure to optimize body and mind, and learn about the underlying physiology.
Why would you recommend the Wim Hof Method?
“The intimate quality allows for ample personal attention, and feedback tailored to your specific situation. Whether you are looking to improve mental or physical performance, relieves symptoms related to an illness, or just curious to find out what the Wim Hof Method is all about? The Wim Hof Method workshop offers something for everyone.” – Ashley Orr

“The Wim Hof Method releases natural opiates and cannabinoids, releasing feel-good hormones throughout our bodies.”
What is the HAF part?
I was intrigued by the Wim Hof method and how it was connected to the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)? As cannabis enthusiasts, I do most things under a cannabis-friendly way and don’t necessarily recommend you try this under the influence unless it’s in your wheelhouse. How did I become chronic? Parenthood, like cannabis, enables me to function with a cooler head and handle things in a congenial manner as opposed to losing my shit. So for me, I wanted to see the cannabis affects of this method first hand. Plus Wim Hof was born on 420, so I am thinking that it’s a sign?
By learning this technique it will enable us to access our ECS and allow ourselves to self-heal. This can cover a range of issues including; anxiety, asthma, chronic pain, depression, digestion, inflammation, and sleep. Being someone in their midlife, any one of those issues was enough reason for me to also check this out.
My Experience:
Personally, when I am under the influence nothing sobers me up faster than comfort food and the cold. Hence, I was not a fan of this but for scientific purposes; you sometimes have to push your comfort zones. Concentrating on breathing under the influence was easier than I thought. Sitting down into the tub slowly, I was calmer than I would have thought. With the cold and calm, I almost forgot to breathe, as the shock of the ice takes your breath away. The breathing helped me focus and was not as difficult as I would have imagined. I managed to stay in the tub for a minute until I lost it if that makes sense? Coming out of the tub was a head rush and a half! It was quite the buzz coming out, so take it slowly. Stepping out, I could feel the blood rush down to the rest of my body, and what a rush! The after effects were interesting, as I felt I was still high, but different. Refreshed, recharged with a very calming demeanour. It was a very uplifting experience indeed and an enlightening kind of buzz!

Cannabis Phil
It has been amazing to see the cannabis industry grow exponentially over a couple of years, to see this kind of growth is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I first started in the industry as a writer/photographer for High! Canada Magazine, interviewing some top people in the cannabis space. Eventually, I started doing content/video work, social media coverage of various cannabis events across North America, catching the pulse of what was going on and partaking in a quite a few sessions, meeting some truly amazing people on the way. In my previous enslavement (aka "career"), I was involved in the business side of things, so I do have an invested interest in the business aspect. Coming into my somewhat “village elder years”, I hope to bridge the gap between generations, in hopes of breaking the stigma and showing others it's okay to get high, while possibly showing them how. My passion for cannabis and writing covers; strain reviews, vapes, dabs, shatter, social media coverage of events, new products, patient advocacy, innovations and the business of cannabis.
