It’s Going to Be a FOO-tastic Summer

Oct 24, 2017

Foo Fighters are the very definition of a band that goes big or goes home.

Considering it’s been a few years now since they last graced Toronto with their rock presence – not counting Dave Grohl kicking out the jams with Prophets of Rage in 2016 – you would figure the tour for Concrete and Gold would be appropriately massive.

The FOO don’t disappoint, announcing twenty-one 2018 concert dates that will see them play venues normally reserved for sportsball teams such as Fenway Park (a doubleheader even), Wrigley Field and Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Thursday, July 12th. I probably don’t need all my fingers to count the number of guitar-leaning bands who can fill stadiums of this magnitude, but I’m very confident ye olde SkyDome will be packed more than it was for the nearly last place Jays this year, with people raucously signing along to faves “Learn to Fly”, “Best of You”, and of course “Everlong”. No support has been announced yet (or really needs to, let’s be honest), but I’ll be the last to argue if buds Queens of the Stone Age want to tag along like they will in South America. Or how about Smashing Pumpkins, who may be announcing an original lineup reunion any day now? Anything but William Patrick Corgan covering “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus acoustically.

For a group that seems to upsize everything, you may have actually slept on brand-new track “Soldier”, which they discreetly released on October 20th in support of Planned Parenthood. Take that Trump and your admin’s efforts to take away their funding! Politics aside, not sure how it missed the C&G cut, as its sound harkens back to classic ’90s FOOs; I’ve given it multiple Spotify plays, which is more than I can say for a lot of post-Wasting Light tracks.

Still, with all the crap news that’s been shovelled our way recently, this is at least something rock fans can look forward to. Word of advice – Be sure to subscribe to this “FOOsletter” for a presale code that’ll come in handy on ohhh…let’s say October 30th at 10AM local time.
