Covid-19 has brought some of the worst out of people, but it’s also brought some of the best, and that should be shared with the world. This is one of those feel good stories and it happens to involve Montreal Canadien, Jeff Petry and his wife Julie. The Petry’s have decided to open tabs at local restaurants for hospital workers to eat for free.

Petry announced via his Instagram that him and his wife would be opening $2500 tabs at two local restaurants in Montreal, Mandy’s Gourmet Salads and Notre-Boeuf-De Grace. All the hospital workers need to do is bring their ID’s with them showing their employment and they can order whatever they like.

The Petry’s were contacted by NHL.com and Julie Petry had this to say:

These people are dealing with so much more. They’re changing in their garages when they get home from their middle-of-the-night shifts and doing laundry at three in the morning so they don’t infect their house. And then they’re dealing with all the other stresses that come with this, like do they have enough groceries? What are their kids doing? Our message to them would be to just know that everyone is thinking about them and we appreciate what they’re doing. Even though there’s nothing we can actually do besides stay in our houses and follow the guidelines, this was one small thing we could do to say ‘ We notice you. We appreciate you. Thank you. Go have dinner or lunch on us.’

Hopefully this is the start of a trend around sports as athletes like Petry have been finding ways to give back to their communities who devote so much of their lives to passionately enjoy the games.
