Has Marvel Studios lost it’s Cinematic Edge?

I have been reading Marvel Comics for over 40 years and here is how they can fix the cinematic universe. Part one.

Back in the 90s, Marvel Comics would forgo creative and pro writing for extreme art. Sound familiar? Today’s Marvel has lost the raging pulse and replaced it with complicatedness and CGI.
Let’s start with the dark side, my friends, and my personal favorite Spider-Man.
We call these “tales from the web” and go back in time to an intense storyline/battle with the Green Goblin. It’s a younger Spidey so we need a fresh face (insert your choice here). I would be happy with Willem Dafoe, as Norman Osborne is much older than Peter Parker adding to the creepiness of the story.
We need a pro director, this is key. I need ARI ASTER for this gig. He was responsible for such gems as “Hereditary” and “Midsommar”. If you’re familiar with these films you will see where I’m going with this.
Now let’s NOT draw this out into a huge interwinding tale that bleeds through the Marvel Universe. Let’s tell a solid story. Get rid of the Goblin armor and get back to the dark psychology that is the image of the Green Goblin. He could and should be terrifying therefore bolstering the fact that this evil monster is fighting a teenager. The end result is a devastating loss to our hero, again changing the vibe of the story. Forget the school side of things and let’s get seriously into the minds of heroes, villains, and their originality.
This storyline obviously would be for the older fans, but you have to admit the previous Spidey flicks have been for the kids, which I get. This project could be done on TV or the big screen and in my opinion, would give the proper kickstart to getting the pulse back in the Marvel Universe. We have come to expect a certain kind of movie from Marvel now (Deadpool and Logan the exception) and it’s time to make people uncomfortable again. It’s time to make them feel like they do when turning the pages to their favorite stories again. Add the perfect writer and director and maybe the new MCU will add a much-needed dose of mystery, unpredictability, and dare I say; a little fear.  Hell, sign me up, I’d love to write it. Hey Kevin Smith or Ari Aster, are you free to join me?
Next week: The PUNISHER.
