I’m Not Even Sure We Understand What Tom Brady is Doing Right Now

Feb 8, 2021

And I’m being very serious.
I’m so serious I’m leading with a Skip Bayless Tweet.

I think we are officially witnessing something you may never get a chance to see again in your lifetime. The birth of a new type of ‘Greatness’. A different level of history, for a variety of reasons.
Tom Brady just won his 7th Superbowl. It’s the least impressive part of what we saw him do today.
Tom Brady just took a few good receivers, his broken friend (who was a monster today) Gronk, a bunch of spare parts who were 7-9 last year, to 8 straight wins in a row, and a fucking Super Bowl in a pandemic year at the age of 43. It was his tenth Super Bowl. TENTH.

He has more Super Bowls than any other franchise that has Super Bowls. Think about that for a second. In the combined history of every franchise in the HISTORY of the National Football League, not one franchise has as many Super Bowls (7) or MVP’s (5) than Tom Brady in 21 Years.
Tom Brady is singular. No one won like this. Ever. At his age, in THIS sport, that longevity is unthinkable. The average length of an NFL career is 3.3 years.
He was perfect today, too.

He was 21/29 for 201 yards, 3 touchdowns, no picks completing 72% of his passes. He was surgically calm for four near-perfect quarters after Leonard Fournette (who wasn’t playing a few weeks before the playoffs started.

He just made Antonio Brown a Super Bowl Champ, for Chrissakes.

He’s undeniably the greatest football player in history, but he’s also now the new GOAT.  Period. Stop.  Greater than Jordan, Gretzky, and Serena.  Sorry, but fuck Secretariat.

He’s more than the GOAT.  He’s “The GOAT’S, GOAT”

Improbability, combined with how good Tom was today, at his age, in a new city with a new team, makes this the greatest accomplishment you might ever see in your lifetime.  That’s what you’re witnessing and what you witnessed today.  A new ceiling no one has touched before.

Enjoy it.  It’s ‘new history’.
