Is Your Travel Rental Watching You? Spoiler: Yes

You’ve been warned. Think twice before you get your coffee naked, read the morning news naked, or just sit on that couch naked. Because if you’re renting an AirBnB, VRBO, or any other vacation rental, there’s a good chance a hidden camera is watching you. Well, a creepy person is watching you via hidden camera. But you get the gist.

On this week’s episode of The PaulCast, I interview travel security expert Randy Andrews who built an app that finds hidden cameras inside your room. The Hidden Camera Detector app is able to locate cameras using a unique technology that homes in on the camera’s lenses, but also identifies whether there are GPS trackers, listening devices, and more.

Here’s the scariest part though: In America and many other countries around the world, it’s perfectly legal for rental owners to film in what’s considered a public area – living room, kitchen, etc. As long as they inform you that there are cameras, it’s totally kosher for them to watch.

Bottom line, you’re probably better off spending an extra $30 getting a hotel. But in the meantime, download the Hidden Camera Detector and listen to this enlightening and seriously frightening discussion to learn how to protect yourself, and your glorious naked body.
