It’s Brad’s World Now

Jun 1, 2023

Well, I know it’s been three weeks since I wrote an article but I was in Florida for a wedding “not mine” and I wanted to breathe and see what happened in Leaf Land. Well, it started with a burnout Kyle Dubas which may have just been code for I want more money, but more on Kyle in a bit. Then Kyle was told he isn’t coming back, later comes at you pretty quick huh?  Then began what has been an almost two-week search to who is going to be the new man at the helm in Toronto. Fast forward to today, the start of a new month, almost the start of a new season and the son of a pizza mogul is the new man in charge in the hockey-mad city of Toronto.

Brad Treliving is the newest GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the third GM under team president Brendan Shanahan who I currently have a lot of questions about. But Brad comes to Toronto with many years and experience having been Calgary’s GM for nine years and worked with the Arizona Coyotes prior to his time in Calgary.

Now with Brad, I am not concerned about some of the moves he has made in the past or his draft history in recent memory, however, in 2016 Brad did hit two home run picks with Matthew Tkachuk and Norris-winning defenseman Adam Fox. So we shall see him drafting in 2023 from far of course as Calgary won’t allow him to be at Toronto’s draft table on June 28 for whatever reason. But now the even bigger questions are going to need answering in the not-so-distant future, like what will happen to Sheldon Keefe and when or if Auston Matthews will sign a new deal to make him a Maple Leaf lifer.

Griff Bordignon

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
