I’ve Literally Waited My Entire Life To Watch Canada Play in A World Cup

June 9, 1986 the USSR defeated Canada 2-0 in what would be Canada’s last appearance in a World Cup. August 19, 1986 I was born. I have literally waited my entire life to watch Canada play soccer on the biggest stage. Tomorrow afternoon my dream is finally coming true.

My expectations aren’t through the roof. Canada is a young developing team. Perhaps I’ll be a little more critical and raise the bar a bit in 2026. For now however I’m just happy to be involved.
That being said, I believe Canada has a very good chance to defeat Belgium on Wednesday. Morocco is also a very winnable game. Nobody should be surprised if Canada advances to the Round of 16.
Regardless, I purchased my Canada Soccer flag and I got to drive around proudly. I’m a little disappointed I can’t fly the actual Canadian flag, but my 11-year-old said “people will think you’re a freedom fighter.”

Anyways, Go Canada!
