There have been reports that LeBron James is willing to listen to contract talks with the Warriors in the offseason. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, if the Golden State Warriors can create a max salary slot this offseason, the defending NBA champions could position themselves to secure a meeting with LeBron James.

I’m sorry to tell you, but this is FAKE NEWS folks. There are simply too many moving parts here for this to be a viable option for the Warriors. In order for this to work, the Warriors would have to build an offer around Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala, and hope that the Cavaliers are tempted enough to make a deal.

Then the Warriors would have to convince Kevin Durant to decline his player option and take less money than his current $25M deal, and then would have to move Shaun Livingston to a team with cap space. After that the Warriors would likely have to fill their bench with players making the league minimum, according to Haynes.

It’s not happening. This is a great piece for ESPN to get views, but the likelihood of all of these pieces coming together to make this happen is doubtful. Klay Thompson is far more valuable to the Warriors than people realize, Kevin Durant isn’t going to take even less money, and LeBron James wouldn’t have the same authority or pull with the Warriors as he would somewhere else.
