Everyone has a story.
We all have reasons why we love certain sports, certain athletes, certain people for that matter.
It’s usually triggered by a moment, some instance where one second of connection leads to a lifelong memory.
For me, I sang the national anthem at a Blue Jays game back in the early 90’s with a group of kids and Otis Nixon came up to me and gave me a fist bump. I remember getting Pat Border’s autograph at the Upper Canada mall and he gave me catching advice. My love for baseball has never faltered since, and I think these two moments have played a big part in that.
This little guy will remember this thumbs-up moment for the rest of his life, and it only took Duchene one second of his time to make it happen.
I’ll gladly take Auston Matthews, but last night, Matt Duchene was everybody’s number one centre.
