Maple Leafs Hired/Fired Their New Goaltending Coach In 48 Hours For Liking A Series Of Shitty Tweets Because That’s Apparently A Thing

This might be the shortest employment in NHL history.
On August 8th, the Leafs announced Dusty Imoo (the goaltender whisperer) would join the Marlies as their goaltending guru.
August 9th, MLSE was made aware of Dusty’s social media history. He was fired on August 10th. It’s gotta be a land speed record.
Here are the likes and RT’s in question.
Nicole Arbour is a Canadian disease with decent jugs who should be shot into the sun out of a shit cannon. The rest are run-of-the-mill conspiracy theory bullshit with a real blue line/white power bent (which is weird because he’s Japanese).
MLSE seems to blame its own employees for not being thorough enough in the vetting process, but I fail to see what liking tweets has to do with Dusty Imoo’s ability to do his job.
“It speaks to a culture we don’t want to promote,” said a source at MLSE.
OK. I get that. But where does it end?
While Dusty’s ‘like’ history shouldn’t have anything to do with coaching goalies, I doubt Kyle wants to bring someone into the organization who doesn’t have shared values. I also get that the Leafs are protecting their brand, but publicly firing a guy based on his political ideology, summarized by a few shitty likes on social media, is a dangerous statement to make on a team full of personalities who might share similar views.
And how does MLSE know he didn’t like these tweets to use them or show them to others? I do it all the time to help write posts and I use them in podcasts for content to illustrate a point.
I bet my last dollar MLSE has a BUNCH of employees whose timelines include some questionable activity. Are they now going to purge staff based on their handling of Imoo’s past transgressions?
Are they going to hold ushers and suite attendants accountable for retweeting an anti-vax stance/meme?
It’s fucking totally hypocritical if they don’t (which they won’t).
MLSE did the right thing and knows the value of parlaying a mistake into good PR with pure hypocrisy.
Dusting Imoo (see what I did there) was the right thing to do ONLY in as much as Brendan and Kyle continue to do the right thing, which includes applying the same set of virtues to the group as a whole.
That will probably happen next, right?
