Mayweather may have won the fight, but McGregor won the night. Let me start out by saying that I was wrong, not dead wrong, but wrong none-the-less. I went against conventional wisdom and picked McGregor to win by knockout.

I wasn’t wrong in my analysis of how the fight would play out though. Even though I eventually went against that analysis, I was pretty much dead on with it. Conor may not have went the distance, but had the referee not ended the fight early, that’s exactly where the fight was headed.

McGregor proves the doubters wrong

If you think McGregor was embarrassed in anyway, you’re dead wrong. Boxing analysts were giving Conor absolutely no chance. In fact Max Kellerman even said that McGregor wouldn’t even land a punch. When in fact, he landed 110 of them. In comparison, Manny Pacquiao only landed 81 and Canelo 117 in 12 full rounds.

As I said in my analysis, McGregor would win the early rounds and Mayweather would come on strong later in the fight. And that’s exactly what happened. The boxing commentators were stunned as to what they were seeing. They couldn’t believe that Conor was giving the “TBE – The Best Ever”, real problems.

But as I said, McGregor wasn’t coming into this to out-box Floyd Mayweather. He’s not that naive, nor dumb. He knows Floyd would have put on a clinic if that were the case. He came to fight, and a fight was what we saw. A better fight in fact than both Pacquiao and Canelo gave Mayweather, and those are two of boxings best.

Boxing’s hard truth

Boxing pundits are still today, struggling to come to terms with what they saw. They’re on Twitter trying to undersell how well McGregor performed in the ring. But the hard truth of it all is that MMA’s best, with zero professional boxing fights, went 10 rounds with their “TBE”. Yet boxing’s best wouldn’t last one round in the octagon if the tables were turned.

Boxing is a dying sport. The best boxers are no longer considered the baddest men on the planet. Thanks to MMA, we know that an average wrestler with no ability to throw a punch, would destroy a great boxer in a real fight. Boxing is literally the least respected art of the all the martial arts, and last night McGregor showed why.
