Nathan Lukes Cracks Blue Jays Opening Day Roster

Mar 28, 2023

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced exciting news for Nathan Lukes, who has been given the honor of being named the winner of the 26th job by manager John Schneider. Lukes received the good news during a brief and straightforward conversation with Schneider and GM Ross Atkins. They shared positive feedback regarding Lukes’ impressive performance and the young athlete was ecstatic to hear the news.

Lukes expressed his delight, stating that he had always dreamed of being called up to play for the Blue Jays. He emphasized his work ethic, saying that he constantly grinds it out, and that he doesn’t believe he’s an easy out whether he’s in the batter’s box or on the bases.

Schneider also expressed confidence in Lukes’ abilities, stating that they trusted him in the outfield and on the bases. While the team is built and constructed right now to play a more sporadic role, Schneider is still excited to have Lukes on the team.

Throughout camp, Lukes faced some tough competition from other hopefuls, including Otto Lopez and Vinny Capra, for the coveted position, but it was ultimately Lukes’ superior batting skills and expertise on the bases that caught the Blue Jays’ attention. Furthermore, Lukes is also a skilled outfielder and will add to the team’s depth in that particular position.

Even though Lopez did not make the team, the Blue Jays were impressed with his showing this spring, and they acknowledged that there was nothing more he could have done to break into the team.
