Ontario Moves March Break To April And Parents Are Angry Because ‘My KiDs NeEd A bReAk FrOm ScHoOl’

Yesterday, Ontario’s Education Doucher, Stephen Lecce, announced March Break would be moved to April due to pandemic related school year cancellations.

It didn’t even register with me when I heard the news, to be honest.  I just assumed parents would be cool with it after not having their kids in a classroom setting for over a year.

Apparently not.

Are some of you angry about a forced break for our kids who really haven’t been in school for the better part of a year?  Or are you angry about having to reschedule that vacation you shouldn’t be going on?  Or have you and your family morphed into huge pussies who think a few hours of online homework between Fortnite and unlimited bathroom breaks is just too much for little Johnny and Jane?

My kids have gone to one morning class a day this year.  One.  Up until the XMAS break pandemic cancellation, they attended one 90 minute class in the morning and that’s been it for 3 months out of the calendar year.  They haven’t been in a normal classroom setting, learning or socializing since last March break when school was kiboshed around the province.  The last thing they need is a break from the world’s longest break.

For parents who homeschool and are tired of the Teacher/worker grind, I feel you. Too.  My son’s Math teacher shows up for 10 minutes of a 90 minute, assigns homework, and bugs out so I know our kids are really being taught and that falls on us.  I get that you might need a break but our kids don’t.

What kind of breaks do our kids need that schools can’t fix?  I’d argue our kids need a break from this break before they need a break from going back to school provided Doug Ford can make our schools safer.  If he can’t (my money says he can’t) you’ll be having April/May/June break and you can stop bitching about your kid’s strenuous workload and get back to pampering your kids into being completely useless adults.
