Ontario Stops Giving Out First Dose Of Astra Zeneca Due To Increased Risk Of Rare Blood Clotting

May 12, 2021

I dunno how increased risk of rare blood clotting is any rare anymore if its happening more than they thought it would.

Ontario says it will stop giving out first doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for now due to an increased risk of a rare blood clotting syndrome linked to the shot.

The Globe And Mail: The province’s top doctor said the decision was made out of “an abundance of caution.”

Ontario is preparing guidance for people who already received a first dose of AstraZeneca on what to do next, Dr. David Williams said.

Williams stressed that AstraZeneca recipients made the right decision, based on the advice available at the time, to get that vaccine.

Alberta stops giving first doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Ontario’s move comes hours after Alberta said it won’t give out more first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the time being because there aren’t any confirmed shipments coming.

The blood clotting syndrome linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine is extremely rare but can be fatal.

In Canada, at least 12 cases have been confirmed out of more than two million doses given and three women have died.

Ontario said it has 49,280 doses of the shot remaining in the province out of over 707,000 received.

The province, along with others, is awaiting results of a clinical trial in the United Kingdom looking at giving a different vaccine for the second dose.

That would allow people who got AstraZeneca first to be given Pfizer or Moderna for their second dose.

I immediately had two thoughts when I read the first legitimate tweet (not the 500 Chris Sky hammered me with) that the Ontario Government is discontinuing the AZ shot.

  1. Condolences to the families who’ve lost someone after getting the vaccine.  Truly.  It’s one ting to think your family is doing the right thing only to lose a family member to it.

  2. The crazies are going to go APESHIT over this.

Listen.  You are still more likely to die resulting from injuries sustained in a car crash than from developing blood clots.

HOWEVER, you (we) still did the right thing in helping prevent the continued spread of this shit.  I mean that.

I’m glad the province is suspending it.  Not because I’m more afraid knowing more people that they thought would get blood clots (I was vaxxed with my first dose of AZ a month ago), but this is the first time the government of Ontario has shown and abundance of caution for it’s citizens in a while.

England’s pubs are opening this week because they jammed the shit out of AZ vaccines into Britons over the past 5 months.

So what now?  Gov’t health officials are looking into wether or not we can get a Pfizer or Moderna booster as our second shot.  Maybe this might be a magic combo that turns every one who was vaccinated into mutant Superheroes VS Villains culture war where we have to pick sides.  Mutants like me who are sincerely sick of everyone’s conspiracy/woke anti culture bullshit OR the other guys.

Our squad would be fighting for good so we’d always win.  That’s what happens in the movies.

If you got the vaccine already, there are studies that say the chance of getting these rare blood clots are significantly lower than with the first dose, if at all but i get it so do whatever makes you happy with your second dose.  but make sure you go full monte

Keep in mind this isn’t across Canada – it’s JUST in Ontario so this might be a QC issue.  Who knows.  On a community and personal safety bassis, you did the right thing if you were vaccinated with the AZ vaccine and would be smart to get the second dose if still approved.

This is a little bit of a hot button subject and the last thing I’m going to do is tell you what you should do with your body. If you’re not comfortable with a second AZ dose, don’t get it.  If Pfizer is more your bag and we get approval to mix the old Bill Gates ‘Monster Juice’, fill your boots.

Just keep getting vaccinated.
