Overreaction Monday: Are Josh Allen And The Buffalo Bills Mediocre At Best?
Yesterday was hard to watch. The Giants were the biggest underdog of the weekend.
On Sunday night, the football world witnessed a very unexpected turn of events as the New York Giants came uncomfortably close to pulling off a surprise victory. Wig Martindale’s defence put up a stellar performance, effectively shutting down the high-flying Buffalo Bills offence for the first three quarters.
The Giants’ defence displayed relentless determination, intercepting Josh Allen and forcing a crucial fumble from wide receiver Gabe Davis, providing their offence with a genuine opportunity to seize the game.
Unfortunately, Tyrod Taylor and the Giants’ offence failed to capitalize, managing only three field goals throughout the night and squandering a pivotal chance at the goal line as the first half came to a close.
As the game entered the fourth quarter, Josh Allen showcased his precision, completing 7 of 8 passes for 49 yards and delivering two decisive touchdowns. The only incomplete pass during this stretch occurred with just 1:36 remaining in the game when Josh Allen slightly under threw tight end Dawson Knox on third down, missing an opportunity to secure the game. Unfortunately for the Bills, the pass was dropped, leading to a 53-yard field goal attempt by Tyler Bass, which drifted right and allowed the Giants one final chance at an unexpected victory.
In a thrilling final drive, Tyrod Taylor guided his team down to the 1-yard line, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. However, the Giants’ last pass attempt sailed through the hands of Darren Waller and out of the end zone, dashing their hopes of a remarkable comeback.
In the end, the Buffalo Bills held on to secure a hard-fought 14-9 victory, advancing their season record to 3-2.
The Bills should have destroyed the Giants. Josh Allen got banged up at the beginning but overall the Bills have not looked like a juggernaut this season. Calling it now they barely sneak into the wild card and lose.
