Papi Saves The Day, Leafs Win Game 2
What looked like rock bottom turned a 180 and is now a relieved Leafs Nation as they take care of the Bruins in Boston 3-2. The path to getting to this win and taking the series back to Toronto tied at 1-1 wasn’t easy, so let’s see how we got here.
The first period started with the Leafs again flying and once again Ilya Samsonov saving the Leafs bacon for the first 10 minutes. However, that was short-lived after Jake McCabe took a boneheaded penalty, giving Boston a powerplay opportunity that they didn’t miss out on.

Morgan Geekie finds the back on the net only 25 seconds into the powerplay giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead early on in this contest. Max Domi got a quick chance only 14 seconds after Geekie took the 1-0 lead to take this one back, as we got a 1-1 game early on in Beantown.

The saying, Fuck around and find out gets thrown around alot these days and the Maple Leafs decided, hey, lets apply that to Bruins All Star David Pasternak as he was left wide open in the slot after getting an unreal pass from Pavel Zacha to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead with 7 seconds left and we go into the first intermission.

The second period had it’s peaks and valleys for Toronto as they came out with a resilient effort trying to get back into this game, something, anything. They did get a chance when Tyler Bertuzzi found the back of the net, however after video review, it was determined he had his stick too high and we’re back to square one. As the power play ensued and the saying, pucks on net and Shoot the damn puck comes out, pajama boy John Tavares did just that with just under 9o seconds to go in period 2 and we’re all tied up folks heading into the third.

The third period, back and forth, save after save, including an unreal glove stop by Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark, had fans waiting for one side of the puck to crack.

However, there’s a man, a man from Arizona who was denied 70, denied chance after chance throughout the night, but if you give a man an inch, you give him a mile. Auston Matthews took a beautiful feed from MAx Domi, goes in on Ullmark and tickles the twine and the Leafs are up 3-2 with just under 8 minutes to go.

Some back and forth, ensues, including the Leafs killing off a 4 on 3 later in the period and the Leafs hold on to win this game 3-2 and tie the series up at 1 a piece as we head back to Toronto for game 3 on Wednesday.
Game 3 will be a true test for Toronto as they’ve only led for 7:54 of the series and Boston will look to silence the people lucky enough to get inside Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday night. You poked the bear and now the Bear is looking to attack back on home ice Wednesday. Let’s see if the Leafs can answer back and take a 2-1 lead.
