Phil Simms’ kid told his dad he was fired.

Earlier this week, Phil Simms was replaced by freshly-retired former Cowboys QB Tony Romo as Jim Nantz’s co-host for the NFL on CBS.

Apparently Chris Simms got a text from a friend saying his dad Phil was being replaced in the booth by Romo. Phil, who was vacation in the Barbados, apparently didn’t take the news well, and rightfully so.

Not sure whats worse: being fired or being told you’ve been fired by your son.

Media is a cold-blooded business and usually run by people who’ve never actual been behind a camera or a microphone. The decisions to hire or fire people are usually more about popular opinion and trying to impress other dim witted peers, or about trying to put their fingerprint on a business they have either A) never actually done, or B) were to shitty at so they got into management.

I know that firsthand.

In Phil’s case, I think it’s a couple different reasons.

Jim Nantz is basically sports broadcast God at CBS. His production company has the rights to the NFL Broadcasts for CBS and a little golf tournament called The Masters. If he wants Romo, Phil is an afterthought.

Phil also likes to hear himself talk about stuff most people with an IQ of 13 could understand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGvsWD29WSE

As palatable as these reasons may seem to turf Phil Simms from the NFL on CBS, I’m pretty sure it’s because he farted on Jim Nantz last year.   Note to self: never “beef stew” your boss.
