Episode 14 – A Honchos Sports Breakfast to Kick-Off 2021.

About the Episode

The Sports Honchos. Hosted by Paul C. Cuthbert and Robert Kuney.

The Honchos kicked off 2021 with a special breakfast edition of the show, and they jam-packed it with extra goodness for your midday break. They opened the showgram with a discussion of New Year’s resolutions before diving headfirst into the sports.

First off was a look at the CFP semifinals and a brief look at the big game on January 11th. The Honchos dissected the loss by Clemson to Ohio State and what the future holds for the Clemson program after Trevor Lawrence. The NCAA segment wrapped with praise for Heisman winner DeVonta Smith of Alabama and the firing of Texas head coach Tom Herman.

The MLB/NBA/NHL segment was headlined by baseball talk starting with the big trade of Francisco Lindor to the Mets. They did a tribute to Phil Niekro, which then gave way to Bianca Smith being hired by the Red Sox and the Hall of Fame ballot submitted by David Skretta. The segment wrapped with praise for the USA Junior National Hockey Team winning the World Juniors and NHL naming rights for the NHL divisions.

The NFL Roundup was mostly an exhaustive look at the twin tripleheader playoff games this weekend, and then a brief discussion of why the Jaguars and the Jets should be careful if they want to hire Urban Meyer or Ryan Day as their next head coach.

The Honchos took a brief sports detour to look at Ken Jennings and his recent Twitter troubles and then it was time for another edition of Seconds of Soccer.

The Honchos finished off today’s short stack of podcast cakes, as they always do, with the Dope of the Week. This week we congratulated Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.
