RBC Canadian Open Day 1 Recap

Jun 8, 2023

Hello everyone, It’s Griff here checking in from Oakdale Golf & Country Club the host course for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open and let me tell you, I have got some great content so far, but still working on a Jay Monahan interview at the moment.

Day 1 has been a solid day of golf with Justin Lower, Corey Conners and Aaron Rai currently “at the time of this writing” in a three-way tie for first. Day 1 for myself along with Chris Rooke, Chris thank you for giving me access to cover this event. Back to day 1 now and I got to witness some of the world’s best golfers do what they do best and hit the golf ball.

The biggest highlight of the morning was watching last year’s RBC Canadian Open winner and multiple major Winner Rory Mcilroy hit an absolute laser piss missile off of the 5th tee up close and personal.

After Rory it was off to the Hole 1 to watch one of the most talked about golfers, the peoples champ, the man with a beauty of a hole-in-one at the PGA Championship three weeks ago tee it off at the tournament, that’s right folks, it was time for a Block party, as Chris and I got to witness Michael Block up close and personal.

I also got to witness the likes of the Canadian trio of Adam Svensson, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Hadwin tee it off from the first hole, Full Swings Sahith Theegala, Shane Lowry and the winner of the 2003 Masters and Canada’s own Mike Weir.

After walking around a rainy Oakdale, I found my way over the the 14th hole, yes folks the penalty box, where two sports collide and a sport that Maple Leaf players and fans know all too well, hockey and golf. I caught back up to Theegala here but it was the Canadian trio of Adam Svensson, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Hadwin that caught my attention to stay here and get some amazing content on the Crier Twitter feed and also find my way onto the the TV broadcast as well, thanks to a few buddies for texting me about the ordeal. However here is the trio teeing it up at the penalty box, please note this is a thread tweet so please scroll through it.

All in all, day 1 was a success on my end and it’s only the start of what is sure to be a fantastic weekend at Oakdale Golf & Country Club. See you all tomorrow.

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
