Well, that was not fun.
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost game 1 of the second round 4-2 to the Florida Panthers, and what I thought would happen in round 1 happened in round 2.
This game opened up with a solid back-and-forth effort by both teams, but Florida had a pep in their step, and Nick Cousins saw an opening that led to a 1-0 Panthers lead. Nothing followed this, and we went into intermission down 1-0.

The second-period start was all Florida as they looked to add to their 1-0, and they did just that when local boy Sam Bennett potted another goal to make it 2-0 Florida.

Now the Maple Leafs are down 2-0; they need a spark, something charming to happen, and what do you know, the kid. Is alright; Matthew Knies buries his first career NHL goal behind Sergei Bobrovsky to make it a 2-1 hockey game in a moment I called Very “Knies.”

Michael Bunting scored to make it 2-2, but the lead wouldn’t last.
In the third, the Maple Leafs looked tentative in the third. Jake McCabe took a silly penalty, and Brandon Montour made it 4-s. Tj Brodie and John Tavares forgot to backcheck, and Carter Verhaeghe made it 3-2 Floria, which is how we ended the period. Game over.

The Leafs lost to a hot goalie. Period, Stop. And give Florida credit. They just fitted the best team in NHL regular season history. If you thought the second round would be a cakewalk because the Panthers limped into the playoffs, No-Uh-Uh. Tkachuk was a monster last night; Paul Maurice is still an outstanding NHL coach, and the Panthers are PHYSICAL.
Like round one, set your expectations at zero and let fate do the work. The Leafs like spotting teams 0-1 series leads and came from behind 3/4 games in the Tampa series, so relax. Get wasted, eat snacks, and watch the rest of the series. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
