Rock Hall 2021: Foos, Maiden & Rage Lead The Nominees!

Todd Hancock Feb 11, 2021

You’ll remember that last year the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, Notorious B.I.G., T-Rex, and the Doobie Brothers. A good list. Some did question Whitney’s induction (is she really “rock”?).

Last year’s ceremony was supposed to be in May (at Cleveland’s Public Hall) but was postponed to November due to the pandemic. Even then, it was a virtual ceremony.

This year’s nominees have been announced and there’s some obvious choices. The class of 2021 include Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Tina Turner, the Go-Go’s, Kath Bush, Devo, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fell Kuti and Dionne Warwick.

Like most years, there are some questionable nominees.

The inductees will be announced in May and enter the hall in the fall.

To be eligible for entry, each nominee’s first single or album had to have been released in 1995 or earlier.

And btw, this is the sixth ballot appearance for LL Cool J; a third for Todd Rundgren, Rage Against the Machine, and Chaka Khan; and the second for Kate Bush, Devo, Carole King, and the New York Dolls.

So, which bands will it be? Which six make the cut?

Personally, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, New York Dolls, the Go-Go’s & Devo.
