The Alouettes Sink The Argonauts in the East Final

Nov 11, 2023

The East Final is underway here at BMO as the Toronto Argonauts host the Montreal Alouettes in a rematch of last year’s East Final. Toronto had the ball to start the game, but an ill-advised throw from Chad Kelly landed in the hands of Montreals star Free Safety Marc-Antoine Dequoy, and he took it back to the house for a 101-yard pick-six to give the Alouettes an early 7-0 lead.

The Montreal defense is holding strong early as Toronto went two and out on back-to-back drives, and the Montreal pass rush is making life difficult for Chad Kelly. Montreal is also kicking the ball short, making it difficult for Javon Leake to create space and go to the house as he has famously done four times this CFL season.

Toronto started the second quarter with the ball and attempted the Philly Tush Push on third down which was unsuccessful, on the next drive Montreal did convert a first down. However, Brandon Barlow found his way to Cody Fajardo, handing him his third sack.

Toronto isn’t playing their style of football. Meanwhile, Cody Fajardo has been playing an okay game as well, but the ultimate difference is the Marc-Antoine Dequoy pick-six, and if you read my best bets, the under was the correct call.

The third quarter starts with a Montreal 2 and out; Toronto has a chance to get something going this Saturday. Chad Kelly did the opposite as he threw an interception to Montreal’s Reggie Stubblefield. Montreal did kick a Field Goal which was negated because of an unnecessary roughness penalty, and turned into a 17-3 Montreal lead as Cody Fajardo found Tyler Snead in the endzone.

Toronto’s Chad Kelly continues to have arguably his worst start of the year as he throws 4th interception and 2nd pick six of the afternoon to Kabion Eato as Montreal is looking to close out the day with a 24-3 lead.

Chad Kelly seems to have his swag back but it may appear too late. Cameron Dukes did drive home a QB sneak to make it 24-10, but on the ensuing kickoff, James Letcher Jr returned it for 105 yards to give Montreal a 31-10 lead.

In the following possession, Chad Kelly threw a 54-yard bomb at DaVaris Daniels, and Toronto isn’t dead yet.

Montreal has had a chokehold on possession since the Daniels TD strike and is applying pressure to Toronto’s defense as they look to get back to Grey Cup for the first time since 2010. The Alouettes will do just that as Jeshrun Antwi ran in a 12-yard touchdown to give Montreal a 38-17 lead and punch their ticket to the Grey Cup next Sunday in Hamilton, as for who they will face, the West Final is up next between Winnipeg and BC.

Hi, my name is Griff and I'm a complete sports nut. I love to play sports, watch sports and most importantly bet on sports too. If I'm not watching or betting on sports, you can find me on the golf course, between the pipes as your average beer league goaltender. Although sports take up most of my life, I also love spending time with my two dogs, streaming usually a 90's Simpson's or attempting to read more books.
