‘The Athletic’ Wrote A Hit Piece On Mitch Marner’s Dad Paul Marner, And He Was More Than Happy To Help

Dec 17, 2018
here's some tips for Leafs hockey dad Paul Marner||||

First, Let me say I like Mitch Marner and I have no Idea who his dad is other than some stories that seem to cooperate with the piece on Paul Marner in The Athletic.

Here are a couple of quotes.  We’ll get into a bit after.

Jonas Seigel From ‘The Athletic’

I’m going to help Paul here by giving him some free “Media Lessons.”  If Mitch is going to be a mainstay in a Leaf uniform, Paul needs some help because his foray into media was terrible.

1)  ‘Drives Me Nuts’ is a crutch for Paul.  He might want to mix in ‘Frustrated’ or “Around the bend’ instead of so much with the “Drives me Nuts”.  If he’s going to talk to the media he needs a media lesson so consider that media lesson number 1.  Easy with the cliches.

2) Don’t live in the past.  Paul; Mitch is the third best player on this team.  He lit it up the other night in a loss but he’s not even close to being considered for the ‘C’.  Size has nothing to do with it and when it comes to puck possession and skill, he’s behind Matthews and Tavares.

3) Know your place and STFU.  It’s his team, not yours so the next time a reporter chides you into an interview for the sole purpose of getting clicks, remember that.  Jonas Siegal didn’t want to talk to you about your son’s hockey IQ and his training regimen.  He heard you were a mouthpiece and exploited you.  (Classic sports media douchery…But it works so I like it:)  Imagine Mitch walking into the Leaf’s Dressing Room, embarrassed AF getting chirped by teammates because your dad thinks you’re better than everyone else.

4) Don’t Worry, Be Happy.  Listen Paul, no one gives a shit about what ‘other people’ thought of your kid in the GTHL/OHL.  No one.  We care about what he does for the Leafs in the NHL.  You will never be able to sit through one of your kid’s games and really take it in if you’re still pissed about inaccurate comparatives waiting for the Leafs to screw your kid out of a letter.  He’s there.  He’s in the show.  He’s a game-changing impact player in the NHL who’s about to get paid (not your money btw).

5)  Unless you get some counseling, don’t do any more interviews.  The secret is out and you set the bar high for ‘Hockey Dads’ a while ago.  You and Zach Hyman’s dad.   Zach’s dad has kept a surprisingly low profile and I’ve been shocked.  Be like Zach’s dad.

After the Leafs drafted Marner, he and his dad wanted to launch a website featuring merch, autographed jersey’s, and all things Mitch Marner.

Lou Lamoriello found out about it and asked both Mitch and his Dad to come in for a mtg.  In said mtg (might have been on the phone, dunno) Lou told the Marner’s to take it down and if he saw Mitch put himself ahead of the team in any capacity at all, he wouldn’t be playing for the Leafs again.

That’s a true story.  Not flashy, but true.  Now that Lou’s gone Paul appears to be a few inches taller.  Should make negotiations fun.
