The Blue Jays Bullpen is Miles Away From Winning A World Series

Oct 18, 2022

How far are the Blue Jays from winning a World Series? According to Jeff Blair, Jordan Romano would be a middle relief pitcher for the Houston Astros.

It’s no secret that the Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins failed the team at the trade deadline. Despite needing better arms in the bullpen, Atkins elected not to do anything. That decision blew up in Atkins’ face game two of the Jays’ Wild Card round when the Seattle Mariners rallied back from being down 8-1 and eliminated Toronto from the playoffs.

On Monday’s episode of Sportsnet’s 590’s Blair and Barker, Jeff Blair said after watching the Mariners vs Astros, he wouldn’t pitch a single Blue Jays bullpen pitcher over what Seattle and Houston have.

Blue Jays fans can’t be surprised by Blair’s assessment. Heading into the postseason, it was mentioned numerous times that the Blue Jays bullpen over-achieved through the season. Blair was spot on with his opinion. People out there believe that Romano isn’t a natural closer. Kevin Barker said that Romano is a solid seventh-inning reliever.

The offseason is going to be one to watch for Toronto fans. Ross Atkins and indirectly Mark Shapiro have to show the fan base that they will make the necessary moves.

If Toronto’s baseball brass elect not to load up in the bullpen during free agency, there will be no discussion of the World Series returning north of the US border.
