The Cowards At “Journal De Montreal” Sewered PK Subban On PK Subban Night For Being “Cheap”

Via @ClaudeRivest, Montreal
Some newspapers will do anything to feature a controversial topic on their front page. In some cases, they’ll even create controversy out of thin air.
Queue the Journal de Montréal, property of former Parti Québécois leader Pierre Karl Péladeau through the Quebecor company. They briefly owned most ‘Sun’ newspapers in Canada.
Their specialties include criticizing, writing promos for the Quebecor-owned TVA channel, churnalism, and all other nonsense.
Since a broken clock is right twice a day, their sports section is usually pretty good.
Not today. Their controversy du jour: PK Subban didn’t give as much money as he had pledged to the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
To fully understand how completely nonsensical this is, before I dive in, here are some numbers and background information:
- In 2014, the Canadiens signed Subban to an eight-year contract worth 72 million dollars
- Subban almost immediately announced HIS FOUNDATION would donate $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital throughout his contract.
- This was “the biggest philanthropic commitment by a sports figure in Canadian history.”
- In June 2016, Montreal traded Subban to Nashville for Shea Weber
- After the trade, Subban took to Twitter to share he would continue his work with the Hospital despite the trade
- Subban, now retired as a player, has raised $6.3 million to date, including close to a million dollars from his pocket
In most cities, that would buy you a bucket full of goodwill. A huge one too!
Alas, this is Montreal. Here’s the front page today.
It translates to “far from the 10M dollars promised”.
Excusez-Moi? Say what?? Once again, Subban and his foundation gave over 6 million dollars, and these pricks think they can drag him to filth.
Well, I’m proud to say things didn’t exactly go as planned on Twitter.
Aside from my quote retweet pictured above (which translates to At least they’re getting destroyed in the comments. What a shit rag.), almost every single word I was able to read criticized the ‘newspaper’ for picking on one of this city’s favorite people.
I wrote ‘able to read’ above because, as of this morning, I’m blocked from seeing their Twitter feed. If I want to read their angry boomer columnists writing about how the entire planet is falling prey to the woke mind virus, I’ll have to buy a paper copy—presumably using paper money.
I wonder how many others were blocked over this. But I know that as of 9:30 am, they had hidden my critical reply and disabled all comments on the tweet. For everyone. Sorry!
They are a bunch of cowards who act like righteous bullies. Des pleutres ridicules.
I’d love to know how much money the Journal employees have collectively donated to this Hospital over the years.
I’m guessing it’s probably not enough to build a glass house, let alone an atrium for our Children’s Hospital.
On s’en souviendra longtemps. Du don incroyable de P.K., et de votre Journal de Merde.
OK, that’s enough for me. Busy today: I have to find another local newspaper to read!
