Stars Wars nerd alert

Stop reading now Dean and Jimmy.

First, some context. My family has some young kids in it right now so it seemed like a perfect time to go to Disney World in Florida. I haven’t been since I was 4 years old so it was basically my first time going, I couldn’t have been more excited. Before I went, I had a bunch of unhappy people ask me why I was “wasting my time” going to Disney. I got responses like,

“Why would you pay 135 dollars to wait in lines all day?”
“Do you even have kids?”
“Go golfing instead!”

To them I say…

Magic Kingdom

I don’t know who ruined their childhood but alas I didn’t listen and did the trip up big time. My lovely fiancé and I went to Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios and Hollywood studios. Magic Kingdom was hilarious because it’s supposed to be the “happiest place on earth”. However, it is angry dad central. What do I mean by angry dad? Well, every 5 ft you would see a dad yelling at his wife or children to either keep up or not run away. I feel like fathers are already pissed off going in because of how expensive the trip is, which honestly they don’t get to enjoy because they are on constant kid watch.

The best shirt I saw the entire time was on a 6’5 tattooed father which said “bibity, bobity, broke”. If you don’t get that reference, figure out your shit. Lindsay and I stayed at Magic Kingdom for 14 hours and really got our moneys worth. The things you can accomplish when you don’t have kids is amazing.

Universal Studios

Onto Universal Studios which was amazing. I rode the Hulk Rollercoaster a bunch of times because there was no lines and Harry Potter World was magical (pun intended). I made Lindsay buy herself a wand at Olivanders. We were both in heaven. Universal was probably the least busy of the three parks and has a lot more adult attractions than the others. We literally did every single ride. I am not kidding. It was a great day. Also here is a video of the Hulk coaster. Fastest rollercoaster in North America.

Onto the grand finale! Which I’m sure is going to piss off/make a few our our hardcore Star Wars nerds in the company jealous. CEO George Arabian, Vegas Golden Knights broadcaster Daren Millard and tech genius David Randall. Sorry not sorry fellas. All three of your lives are pretty damn cool, so give Rookie a win will ya!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

I have loved Star Wars my entire life. It was my shit. I can attribute my love for Star Wars to my father who was working in the theatre as a young 16-year old the year a New Hope came out. In any case I was real excited. My second favourite movie/series is Toy Story and luckily Toy Story Land was right beside Galaxy’s Edge. I was in heaven. After I took a picture with Buzz Lightyear and rode the Slinky Dog ride it was time for the big show.

Star Wars World was everything I could have imagined and more. Whether you are a casual Star Wars fan or a hardcore fan (David Randall), it has something for everyone. It has nods to the old movies for the older crowd and a lot of nuances from the new movies for the younger audience.

You walk in and are teleported right into Mos Eisley. The attention to detail is insane! You walk right passed a first order cargo ship which is the size of a building and right into Oga’s Cantina. Where of course they are playing the fan favourite “Catina” song on loop.

After having your mind blown there you walk right into the main zone which has a massive life size replica of the Millennium Falcon.

You can go on the highly anticipated “Smugglers Run” ride. The inside of the Falcon was identical and it was crazy how they could recreate it with such detail. Here is photo of me in the halls and the Falcon cockpit.

Unfortunately it’s not all fun and games. You have to keep your wits about you because you can easily run into a Storm Trooper, and these guys don’t mess around. They stay in character the entire time and will arrest you if you act out. I wasn’t scared.

To the left they have “Docking Bay 7 for Food and Cargo” which is where I stopped for lunch. They charge you in credits of course. There are ton of Easter eggs within Galaxy’s Edge where you can go to secret zones for the hardcore fan, you have to walk around and ask the actors for certain things and they will lead you in the right direction.

For example. Buying and building a lightsaber. Yes, I bought one. I needed guidance from the Sith Lord George Arabian before I decided to make the purchase.

I didn’t build it because to be honest it was all kids and I felt weird.

I decided instead to go into Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Hidden inside a a blast door, you’ll encounter a rotating collection of unique items that include everything from jewelry, to ancient tools, rare kyber crystals, statues—and even a collection of famous lightsabers. The eclectic assortment of goods comes from many different planets and eras. You’ll want to explore every nook and cranny of the shop — who knows what priceless riches you’ll uncover! I bought my Obi-Wan lightsaber, as Lindsay rolled her eyes.

I finished off my trip with a nice refreshing Bantha Milk.

I left with a permanent smile on my face. Life complete.

All in all Disney was the best. Stop being pessimistic and go, it might even bring out the inner child in you that has been laying dormant because you are stuck working a dead end 9-5 job and have lost your happiness.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday my Canadian friends and may the force be with you always!
