The Lazy Chef: This Frozen Pizza Hack Will Change Your Pizza Lives
It’s a Friday night, and you feel lazy. You have depressing frozen pizzas in your freezer and a fridge full of derelict “things.” You want to enjoy some pizza but don’t want to put in too much effort. Have you considered grabbing a few banana peppers, onions, and some shredded cheese or jalapenos to your $3 frozen Delissio to make it even better? This is a food hack that the whole family can get behind.
Let’s talk about the base:
Frozen pizzas are great because they’re easy and convenient, but let’s be real – they can be pretty bland. It comes with minimal (base) toppings and sauce made by someone in a factory topping pizza crusts for $8 an hour, 10 hours a day. Why not add some pizzazz with your toppings? You can use anything you like – from leftover veggies to your favorite meats. Pick up a bottle of pizza/bbq sauce or spray some Frank’s red hot around that boring pie.
Add classic toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. Or, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, try adding some pineapple for a sweet and savory combination that’ll have your taste buds singing. Hate pineapple on pizza? You suck at pizza, and Hawaiians hate you and your entitled/poor person pizza palette. The only time pineapple sucks on pizza? When chicken is involved.
What about the cheese?
We all know that cheese is a crucial part of any pizza, but why settle for just one type of cheese when you can mix it up? Add some sharp old cheddar cheese for a bit of tang or even some feta for saltiness. A little designer cheese (gouda or sharp cheddar) can take a plain old frozen pizza to the moon.
Finally, let’s get saucy!!
If you’re feeling creative, you can make your sauce from scratch. But if you’re lazy (which is probably the case if you’re making a frozen pizza), you can still upgrade your sauce by adding some garlic, oregano, or even some red pepper flakes for a bit of spice. Live dangerously and spread a little pesto around that bad boy. My Favorite sauce? Siracha mayo. Don’t @ me before you try it.
All that’s left is to pop that bad boy in the oven and wait for it to cook. And when it’s done, you’ll have a delicious pizza upgraded to a new level. And the best part? Most of the work was done for you by Karen at McCain’s factory last January.
The next time you’re feeling a bit lazy but still want to enjoy a delicious pizza, remember this food hack – adding your toppings to a frozen pizza is a great way to elevate your meal and make it more enjoyable for the whole family. And who knows, maybe it’ll become a regular thing in your household while cleaning out that fridge!
And don’t forget to flavor that bland crust with garlic oil or butter.
You’re welcome, lazy chefs!
