“There’s this undercurrent that’s not pretty.” Matt Sorum’s Autobiography has a Release Date!

The coronavirus pandemic has delayed the release of former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum’s autobiography, “Double Talkin’ Jive: True Rock ‘N’ Roll Stories From The Drummer Of Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, And Velvet Revolver” a few times. Now, they’ve decided on September 7, 2021 as the release date (via Rare Bird Books)!
In “Double Talkin’ Jive”, Sorum takes you back to the beginning; as a kid idolizing Ringo Starr and surviving an abusive stepfather, to his days post-secondary selling marijuana to make ends. That lead to smuggling large quantities of cocaine. Then the dramatic shoot-out that almost ended his career. You’ll hear about joining The Cult, then being asked to join G’n’R to record “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illusion II”. You’ll read about Sorum’s tour days and battling drug and alcohol addiction.
This is going to be a powerful read.
Sorum was recently a guest of the “Stop! Drop & Talk” podcast and talked about the book, “I named it after a Guns N’ Roses song, ‘Double Talkin’ Jive’. Izzy Stradlin wrote that song. We played it together — on the ‘Use Your Illusion I’ album, me and Izzy tracked that in one take. And the premise of the lyric was based around the kind of pitfalls of the music business and success. There’s this undercurrent that’s not pretty. And I talk very truthfully about things that I went through, from my perspective.
Can’t wait to sink my teeth into this book. Which rock autobiography is your favourite?
