Guess who’s back?

Back, again.

Tiger’s back,  tell a friend.

Eldrick Tiger Woods fired an opening round 69 at the most irrelevant tournament on tour, and it was awesome.

For the most part, the Big Cat was swinging it nice. The driver looked free and easy; he even had a couple of ‘Gary Player-step throughs” for good measure. Besides a couple of errant tee-balls, chunky chips and a few pushy long irons, the other 63 shots were on point.

His putter was good, it wasn’t ‘sunday-red’ good, but that will come. The best part of the day was just seeing him hit all of the shots without grimacing. He finally looks healthy.

If Tiger Woods is healthy, Golf is about to get good again.

No disrespect to the likes of Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, or Rory McIlroy, all these guys have taken the game by storm and collectively kept golf from caving into the world of irrelevancy. Tiger Woods takes the game places none of these guys can. All those guys would collectively admit that. They may chirp him a little for being old, and somewhat of a YouTube Sensation, but at the end of the day, most of them wouldn’t be as interested in Golf if it wasn’t for Tiger.

Tiger’s most recent back surgery seems to have allowed him to turn the corner on his life again. This comeback feels like it’s going to be his last one, because he’s finally able to actually come back to 100% and stay back.

Let’s hope Tiger can stay in contention the rest of the weekend, and get back to flying those fist pumps into late Sunday afternoon.

For now, let’s enjoy some of Thursday’s shots at the most irrelevant golf tournament of the year, less than a month before Christmas, with absolutely nothing on the line….for one reason.
